I could probably look at past posts for this question, but feeling a little lazy tonight :) Plus it's nice to have updated responses...

Soooo how long was your engagement? From official proposal (or close to it if some of you progessives out there didn't have a formal proposal) to wedding date. Future Mr. and myself are talking about fall of next year but the planner in me is getting nervous that we're running low on time! We have a very minimal budget (I'm in the simple wedding-big house category) which will require lots of DIY and we don't want a typical banquet style reception so we'll have to get REALLY creative which will involve lots of TIME for brainstorming. Freaking out because he hasn't even bought the ring yet! Ugh.

when we get married it will be 18 months minus two days! we got engaged oct 30th and will be married may 1.

it's a long engagement, but i wanted a spring wedding so i was willing to wait another year! at least this way i know i'll get everything exactly the way i want and we have time to save our pennies to pay for this shindig!

We got engaged right before Christmas 2008, and marrying June 2010.  So, we'll have been engaged about 1.5 years when we get married.  We're 10 months away, and I've only got our venue and food done!  I think you will have enough time for a Fall 2010 wedding if you start now.  I've had some friends plan weddings in just a few months... it's definitely do-able.

Btw, are you engaged but no ring yet?  Or still waiting for the proposal... that would make a difference in your planning too...

My bf and I have talked about Feb 2011, but like you, there hasn't been an official proposal yet so it's not like I can REALLY start planning.  I have my heart sent on a specific date in February of 2011 because my late father's birthday happens to fall on a Saturday night, and I thought it would be a nice way to honor him.  Anyways,   I sometimes wonder if boys realize how much time and planning is needed for a wedding!! haha.

We were dating for 2.5 years before we got engaged. We got engaged over Valentine's Day weekend this year and will be married next June. Our engagement will be 17 months all together.

However, I had a BM just get married at city hall and planned it all in two weeks. They are planning on having a reception, but the "engagement" was very short. Her and her husband had been together over 6 years though.

he put the ring on my finger Dec 23rd and we were married June 23. we chose the 23rd because we had to be on the island for a set number of days to make it legal so it worked out to be 6 months :)

ddubzz- Nope, not "officially" engaged. Technically he still has yet to formally propose with a sparkly and all that jazz. I probably shouldn't even be on this boards until it's official but my planning/Type-A personality has to get a leg up on the whole thing and its just so addictive!

My engagement was 13 months and 2 days, and was, in my opinion way too long. And we had a wedding with all the trappings...I think I could have done it in way less than 13 months. I was so ready for it once it got here!

I think almost exactly 17 months and three weeks. Went slow at first but I was finishing grad school so the time actually flew by.

We got engaged on March 24, 2009 and our wedding will be on September 6, 2009 so not quite 6 months. We've been dating since September 9, 2005. And like you we have a tight budget and I make anything and everything I can. I've gotten pretty creative with my projects but luckily my FI steps in and tells me when I've gone overboard and my creativity has gotten just plain wacky ;)

10 months. We wanted a slightly longer engagement so we wouldn't be too overwhelmed, but our venue's prices were going up after that month! Looking back, I would've wanted around 1.5 years...I don't know how we managed full-time jobs, wedding-planning, and purchasing a condo all at the same time!

Haha wow, I wish I could say my engagement was only 18 months!! We will have a three year minus one day engagement. He proposed June 20, 2008, and we will be getting married June 19, 2011.. The main reason we're waiting so long is because we both want to graduate from college before we tie the knot, and we still have two more years.. But by the time we get married, we'll have been together for just about five and a half years, so we'll have had quite some time together before we get married.. But at least my wedding is only a few days away from being 1 year and 10 months away!! Less than two years finally..

9.5 months.. but i had a stint when i wasn't working so i did a lot of my planning then. i'm not big into DIY so i focused on cutting things that didn't really matter to us which would add to the list of to-dos. i did a lot online - shopping around for cheap(er) vendors and comparing options / getting ideas - so it was something i could do late nites after work.

i wouldn't do it longer - i found that that ends up being the only topic people want to talk to you about - how's your wedding planning.. it gets a bit old after a while.
