Hi ladies! Just a quick question to those who knew about their engagement rings being bought: From the time you knew the ring was bought or in his possession to the time he proposed, how long was the wait?
I didnt know it was purchased!! But he only had it for three days, he had it all timed out so that it wasn't burning a whole in his pocket.
I know he got the diamond sometime in February, but I think he found the setting a month later or so. So with the wait it might take to get the ring, I'd say about a month!? (He asked in May)
I didn't know he had the ring; he had it for 3 months before I got it!
He told me after the proposal that he'd been holding onto the ring for about a month. When I asked what made him finally decide to buy the ring he would only say "It felt like it was the right time to do it." :)
Lillindy: 1 year and 4 months!? How the heck did he manage to do that? Wowza!
The mister only had the ring for a couple of days. He picked it up while I was on vacation with my family, and the night I got back he proposed!
He told me that he had wanted to wait until the following weekend, but he was too excited! :)
A couple weeks- he wanted to plan something special, but either he got lazy or just couldn't wait.
1 week. But it was several months that I knew about it while he was picking it out and trying to get it.
I'm stil waiting for him to get it, but it's looking like that will happen at the end of April now. I don't expect he'll hold on to it too long after it's ready, since we've been working on this together from the beginning and he's excited to buy it for me. :)
I knew he had it for 3 months before the proposal. And I knew he had showed his mom and my best friend! It was definitely hard being patient knowing that it was coming in the near future, but totally worth it in the end! :)
I am a very impatient person so once we started looking at rings and found one, I was like OK let's do this, no point in waiting. He went and bought the ring the next day in this elaborate, 'I lost my wallet, riding around the subways of Boston" story. My first though of course was that he went to get the ring. But then he totally acted grumpy all night and distressed (and frankly, it's not out of character for him to lose his wallet - it happens quite often) and I truly started to believe him. So then in my impatient way, I thought we should immediately keep looking for a ring. We didn't and I got crabbier and crabbier because I felt like he didn't really care to marry me because he wasn't looking. And he didn't want to give me the ring because I was so crabby. He had it for 3 days before I came out of my grumpy mood and he pulled out the ring!
I didn't know that he purchased the ring and I thought that I would definitely know because I knew that he was purchasing it from Portland (no sales tax) and he lives in San Francisco. So when he actually proposed, I was totally stunned b/c I did not know that he secretly flew to Portland for the day! anyways, I think it was about a month before he proposed
6 months!!! i told him i wouldn't move/live together with him (he was moving to pittsburgh from chicago for school) unless we were engaged.
( i was in pittsburgh living with him sans ring for 6 months... i even knew where he was "hiding" it! )
We looked in December, I got the ring in March.
He held onto it for a while, even brought it to Mexico (and somehow hid it from me) then back home, and proposed the weekend after Mexico :)
So, he had it in his posession for almost 2 months.
@peakay: Yup...1 year and 4 months. Sounds like I take the cake compared to all these responses, haha. He had originally gotten it in September of 05, tried to propose on that Christmas Eve, but it just didn't work out then. Over a year later on a trip, he had taken it with him, carried it in his pocket for a day, but her never got the setting he wanted. Then, that December, he was like screw it and just finally did it! He kept waiting for the perfect moment and realized that nothing will ever be exactly perfect, but it could be perfect for us. I'm glad it happened when it did, everything happens for a reason!
We picked it out together, picked it up together and only lasted about 20 hours with it in the house before we were officially engaged! We were way to excited to wait. Especially since I knew it was in the house and what it looked like!
I would say it was around three-four months from when we looked at rings together. But he was so cute... he said that once he had it in his possession he just wanted to show it to me! He managed to wait four days until he proposed :)
Wellllllllll I'm still waiting for mine. Let's say that I've been waiting since August (!!!!
and he says that I'm not patient). The funny thing is that we're planning our wedding without the official engagement, we are working kind of out of order. He says that I'm "not patient", but girls it's been a LONG time since we've decided to get married and he really wants to! I've tried everything from changing the wedding date, to saying I no longer want a ring, to "helping" by picking out and saving rings online, to trying to just ignore it and pretend uninterested...I know it's coming bc we've talked about it to death, the question is: WHEN?
I didn't know he had it! Bought apparently he bought it on a Thursday, it was ready on a Monday and he proposed on Tuesday.
I found the ring while I was cleaning (oops!).... I saw the little bag from the jewelry store, and my heart jumped! I didn't look, and I pretended I didn't know about it, but I became SERIOUSLY antsy and excited about it (come on, come on, come on!!! haha) We had a big (romantic) trip planned, so I just KNEW he'd do it on that trip-- yeah, no. HAHA. Romantic trip came and went-- no diamond on my finger. Then he kept joking with me about proposing on random (weird) days, and at weird times (to throw me off). Ok, so at this point, he knew I must have seen it (since the bag was moved slightly, and the area around it was dusted), so he was just trying to be silly and mess with me (soooo like him). He wanted it to be a complete surprise! Well, considering that EVERYDAY I was waiting for it, it would never be a complete shock- HAHA. I was seriously making sure my nails were done everyday- hey, you never know, he would have done it on a random Tuesday night to try to get a surprised look out of me!!! Anyway, fast forward another 3 months, and he FINALLY proposed, and it was perfect! :)
About 8 months.....I knew he was in the process of buying a ring sometime while he was in Iraq. I knew he'd propose in May during his R&R...so I knew it was coming! *torture*
I had no idea he had purchased a ring. And he usually is not good at keeping things from me :)
Mine was the worst! A year. He waited until we went on vacation to propose.
How do you think guys manage to hold on to these things for so long?! My ring burned a hole in his pocket.
FI bought my ring a little over three months before he proposed. Drove me nuts!
FI bought my ring about a month before he proposed. He called me one night asking what kind of rings I liked and he was telling me about his experience ring shopping, how the saleslady told him he should be romantic and propose in front of our family and friends and all that, so he called to ask me if that was what I had wanted. I said, are you crazy, if you did something like that I would know something was going on. Instead I told him it should just be between him and I and when ever he felt like it. After he proposed I found out he had bought the ring that same night he called me about it.
I actually got the ring after he proposed. Lol. we picked out the ring together and I went with him when he paid for it, but it needed to be sized and a larger center stone put in. It was supposed to be ready the following Saturday, so he nonchalantly made plans for us for the "secret" proposal for that Saturday night, but then the ring wasn't ready and he didn't want to put the proposal off any longer so he drove around all morning Saturday when I was at a doc. appt looking for one of those vending machine rings to propose with...we got the real ring three days later :)
FI had it for a month before he proposed. I had no idea! He wanted to wait until he could ask my parents in person over the holidays. The funny thing is, I had just decided that he wasn't going to do it over the holidays when he didn't propose at "our christmas" before leaving for our families. I had a nice talk with my therapist about always waiting for it and letting myself down, and decided my christmas present to myself was to let it go he would do it in his own time. Then on New Years eve he damn near gave me a heart attack and proposed!!!
I actually didn't know he had it, but he went to pick it up right before we went on vacation for a few days. The day we came back, he proposed!
he dragged (yes, I know that is not what normally happens, but I was scared sh*%less to go into a ring store!) sometime in May/June-ish. He had the ring custom-made and picked it up the day he asked my parents AND proposed to me! He couldn't wait and I was exstatic!
Seven. F'ing. Months. We picked it out together in November, and he proposed in June. We live together and I knew where it was hidden, and it was an awful and stressful time... me pressuring him to just give me the darn thing already, and him getting irritated that I wouldn't give him time to execute his 'perfect plan'.
I can't imagine the anxiety of actually knowing where it was hidden (for those of you who live with your S.O.'s)...It would seriously kill me!
It seems as though 3-4 months is the average...*sigh*...Not sure I'll be able to stay sane that long!
He bought it I think about a week before he proposed, but we had picked it out together about a month before that. He was going to wait a few more weeks, but his family convinced him to do it sooner!
We picked one out last June and I waited and waited, we had a bad experience with Robbins bros, so we decided (after I had already been waiting forever) that we would get a simpler ring somewhere else and get a more fancy ring for my wedding band... so then I had to wait again for him to find a simpler ring... then the day after thanksgiving, we were at the mall and found some jewelry stores that were closing and found a $10,000 Diamond ring that I fell in love with for $2K. We got it on the spot, and he proposed that Sunday.
So technically I waited almost 6 months, and then I waited 2 days lol.
All in all 6 months.
We found the ring in October. But didn't want to keep the exact old european cut diamond, sold the stone, and then he was on the hunt for the "new" diamond.
He'd been telling me since the end of February to "just wait - there's a surprise for your april visit" (he's in kuwait, i am in oregon, so opportunites to pass on the ring were limited).
Upon my arrival in Kuwait I waited 2 nights. He then proposed in a pottery painting place on a marina of the persian gulf. I can only imagine how his heart felt, mine was ready to leap out of my chest.
