We had been dating a little over three and a half years when we got engaged, and our engagement will last about a year and a half. We are getting married the day after our fifth anniversary.

5 years and a few months before we got "officially" engaged (meaning, when i got the ring). we had been talking about it for about 6 months before the official engagement though.
our engagement will be 9 months.

We dated for 3.5 years before the engagement, then our engagement is turning out to be 2.5 years. We were really going for 1.5 years engagement, but we delayed it to deal with a family illness.

We were together for just under 4 years when we got engaged and it will be going on 6 by the time the wedding rolls around- we have a 21 month engagement.

We dated for just over 5 years and will be engaged for 16 moths.
We dated close to 3 years(1 of those was long distance) and have a 21 month engagement. Our wedding is in June 2009.
We dated for 21 months, and will have been engaged for 9 months when we get married in July 08. (We have been friends for 21 years.)

We met in 2001 and started dating casually. Broke up for a while (5months) and then in late 2002 got back together.

We started dating in high school in May 1996, and got engaged in February 2007, so almost 11 years between getting together and engagement. We'll be getting married in May 2008, so about 15 months between engagement and wedding.
We would surely be married already except that we went to grad school in different cities from 2001-2007, and there was no way we were getting married but living apart! And, I wanted our wedding date to be the anniversary we've always celebrated, so it worked out well for 2008...

this is far shorter than either of our parents, who were both around the six months dating/two-three months engaged mark, or my grandparents, who dated for six weeks, got engaged, and got married two months later. :) our parents are still together, and my grandparents were together till my grandpa's death, so i agree that when you know, you know. it all just comes down to when you're ready. :)
