I’ve been engaged since the spring of 2012, and we are finally getting married in 2014, yay! I feel like my engagement time has lasted a lot longer than most, though we both knew we were looking at a 2 year wait after we got engaged since we are in our early 20’s, and I’ll be graduating in May. However, many of the people our age that we went to school with have gotten married within a year or less, more like 6 months. Majority of them were married in the summer, and I feel “behind” though we were egaged way before most of them. How long was your engagement time and how old were you?

One week less than a year. We were both in our mid to late 30’s

@smarie13: 5 months, but we were older so we were already settled.

@smarie13: Why does it jump from a little over a year to over two years? I was a year and 8 months, but I can’t vote, so I’ll just post.

18 months (though it would have been a year if my sister wasn’t getting married this year too). When we get married FI will be 30 and I will be 27.

I’ll be engaged for about 5.5 months before I’m married. I have noticed that age can have a lot to do with it… in your early twenties, it’s common to be engaged for much longer – whether you’re saving for the wedding, or waiting for graduation, or whatever. I’ve had friends who were engaged for three, four years because they got engaged so long before they were actually going to get married. However, I’m just a little bit older than average, and I’m also choosing not to have a very big wedding or a very fancy reception, so it’s pretty easy for me to throw it all together.
It has to do with age, and life situations, and money, and also on the kind of wedding you want to have. When people want to have a big wedding, it usually takes much longer to plan… the people with shorter engagements often (but not always) are having smaller or more casual celebrations.

Originally we were planning on having a 2 year-ish engagement, but we ended up with 12 months and one week. Now I can’t imagine having it be longer!
