Just starting down the road of TTC. yay!
To all your moms and mom-to-be: How long were you TTC before it happened?
I know it can take come time....but I am also very eager. :-)
What was your story?
@spraguebride: aww i'm planning this year too so I can't wait to see the results of your poll!
Sometimes just talking about TTC is dangerous...at least that's what we told my doc when she asked how long we'd been trying, lol. ;)
We weren't trying at all. We were both 18, almost 19. I was on birth control and the first time we had sex, I got pregnant. I had 3 more kids after our first and we weren't even trying with them. However, we weren't not trying, either.
We started trying Nov. 8 and by Nov. 30th I was pregnant!! Totally unexpected for it to happen so quickly
I didn't try at all, my little Caidence happened the first time i EVER had sex. good luck =)
First time, I got pregnant on the third month of trying. Second time, I got pregnant on the second month of trying. However, I've heard that the average is about 6 months.
I went off the pill at the end of July and got pregnant in December. It was really only 4 (long) cycles.
I stopped taking my pill on Aug 31st and got pregnant at the end of October or very beginning of November. So it worked on our third cycle.
I got off of BC in June and then we were just seeing if it happened on its own. Then in October we used an OPK and it worked like a charm because we got preggo that month.
I stopped the pill the week after our wedding, so the third week in May. We got a positive test on July 16 and were almost 6 weeks along. My midwife suspects that I only had one cycle/ovulated once during that time because of how the dates worked out. So first try for us!
I got pregnant the first month, but I had been off the pill for 7 months and doing many other things to up my fertility (losing weight, giving up alcohol, etc.).
The first time it was 2 months after we started TTC. But I miscarried, and then tried again right away and got pregnant the first month. We haven't had the best luck with pregnancy, but at least we know we can get pregnant pretty easily!
I am really surprised with how many people got pregnant on their first try!
@aunt pol: OPK = ovulation predictor kit! You can get them at the drug store, or order online. Helps you predict the days that you are ovulating :-)
I know I really don't apply since I am not pregnant nor have I ever been, but Decemeber was our 10 mth and first round of Clomid. Hope you have better luck! Good luck! BD your way!
Just another note like MissGreen, not pregnant yet, but on month #11 trying (and no major issues to speak of).
It was funny, when I was married the first time, I went off the pill right before the wedding and tried for about a year with no success (I was 24 years old). This time around, I'm 33, went off the pill a little over 2 years ago and got pregnant in month 3 of TTC.
I just went to the ob yesterday and our had our first TTC talk (!!!) we're not starting till next year but I wanted to know what we should be doing THIS year to prepare. She said the one thing she tells everyone, especially when they're my age (27) and grew up in the era of instant gratification is to not get discouraged if it doesn't happen after the first month. She said average amount of trying is 6 months, and they don't even look into possible problems you're having conceiving until you tried for 12 months straight without success.
Love seeing your poll results I'm definately going to be monitoring this!
I am hoping that charting will give me good results. We will see
But I am also really nervous. I always say "you never know if you can get pregnant until you try. We spend our whole lives trying to not get pregnant....so you don't know what happens when you try"
Having a regular cycle makes me hopeful. But you never know about your fertility until you actually start trying.
We started trying in July or August. Then I started charting in September and we were pregnant at the beginning of November. It's crazy how quickly it worked.
First month! Wasn't really expecting it to be that easy since I'd been off BC for over a year and we hadn't had any "accidents" :)
I'm not TTC, however, statistically, I think it takes on average about 6 months to get pregnant, and about 85% of people become pregnant in one year. The poll may side on the lower end because it asked people who are already pregnant. People who have been trying for a while and still aren't getting pregnant can't really vote.
Good luck to everyone TTC!
@EvaBostonTerrier: I agree and I think it calls for another thread/poll, but I can't figure out how to make it work without repeating it every month...I think I'll start one without a poll and we can go from there.
I went off BCP in July 2009 and we started TTC in August 2009. We started charting in October 2009 and added in the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor in March 2010. We finally got our first BFP after 10 months/cycles of TTC. We are due in less than 2 months!
It would be helpful if the age of the mother is correlated with the time TTC on the graph!
I'm turning 25 this week and the hubs is 23. It took us 7 months to conceive, and we're both in excellent reproductive health. I was also BBT charting and we were, uh, baby-dancing on the regular every fertile week. Sometimes it just takes more time than you expect.
With my daughter- I got pregnant on the first try.
With my son, I got pregnant on the first try BUT that was after suffering 2 miscarriages, one of which was a molar pregnancy. From start of TTC to his conception took about 5 months.
My daughter I was in my young teen years and with my son I was 25, my SO was 30
Ha, we weren't even trying! I had been taking prenatals knowing we'd try in spring time. We'd had unprotected sex a couple of other times but we were naive enough to think we'd have to try harder to actually conceive... oops. So, I guess I'd have to say it took us 2 months. I feel lucky because I know it's not always that easy.
We weren't even TTC! Heck, I was almost 19 and had no plans for a baby!!! I was on birth control (which obviously failed) and I got knocked up my first time!
I was off the pill for about 9 or ten months and started charting in August/September. We got a BFP on October 3rd and we're due with twins in late May/early June. I'm 33 and he was 35 at the time (36 now).
First pregnancy and so far so good - but I keep saying my prayers! I hope those who are TTC are as blessed as we've been so far (or at least half as blessed!)
@spraguebride: yeah, I got pregnant the first time I had sex but I wasn't even trying!!!!
@ejs4y8: LOL!!! :)
I've been on BC since I was 16 so I am expecting it to take a while if/when we try..
