Hi bees, for those of you who already know, how long did it take for you to get ready prior to the start of your ceremony? Our ceremony starts at 3pm, and I wasn’t sure when to tell our photographer/florist/videographer what time I will start getting ready…thanks bees!!

My MAU will be done 2 hours before my ceremony. I’m not doing hair/makeup on site.

it depends on if you are doing any photos before the ceremony! Our ceremony was at 4pm, but we started pictures at 11am…so we started getting ready at 8am, but didn’t have our photographer come until 9:30-10ish. (they weren’t around when we were eating, showering, etc. Just for the final hair touches and the makeup.
If you’re just starting with the ceremony I might recommend having your vendors show up at 1 or 1:30pm.

Great post! I have been wondering the same thing. I think for my trial I’m going to time it, I know that sounds so nerdy, but I really don’t want to be late on my wedding day. My ceremony is also at 3pm, but I have to be ready by 1:30pm for pictures before the ceremony at the site.
In general how long did make-up take? And hair? And getting dressed?

I would say it would depend on the amount of work IE how intricate your hair and makeup is … I would say on the Norm give yourself at least 2 hours for hair and makeup

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I also think it depends on how many people are getting their hair/make-up done along with you and if the location has room to do several people at once. Otherwise, you may finish but may have to wait for everyone else. My ceremony is at 5, with pictures starting around 3:45, so I think I will have to have my hair done by 11:30 am.

I’ve been wondering this myself – I hear about so many women beginning their routine first thing in the morning and I can’t figure out how the whole getting ready process should take more than two hours total.
We’re thinking pictures at sunset, ceremony at six thirty, reception at seven so I can’t see getting ready before 2pm. I tend to fiddle with my hair when I’m nervous so I don’t want to have it done too early for fear I’ll wreck it!

We started getting ready at 8am and it took until about 130 pm, but that is also because we only had 2 people doing our hair (there were 6 bridesmaids, me, my mom, and my MIL) and two people doing makeup and we had 30 minutes of travel between each place (we had to go to the salon, then to the makeup counter, then back to my place) so it took up some time. There were a lot of us. But, we went to a salon for a friend’s wedding (There were 5 bridesmaids) and we had hair and makeup done there and they had more stylists and we were done by 1130 i think.

The amount of time depends on how many people are getting ready with you and if you are taking photos beforehand. i have 9 girls doing hair and 5 doing makeup…my hairstylist said the hair will take 5 hours for that many people and the makeup artist will come slightly later since there are less girls doing that. I’m taking photos before the ceremony so for my 7pm wedding, I need to be ready by 3:45. My hair/makeup people are staying a few hours extra for touch ups. My photographer is coming to the hotel at 3pm to take some getting ready photos.
Hope that helps! Talk to your photographer about timing and when you need to be ready by and then talk to your hair/makeup people about how long they think it’ll take and then you can go from there.

are you getting your hair and makeup professionally done? you could ask your hair stylist how long they usually take. mine said that it would take 40 min. per girl, and i have someone doing hair and make up so when one person is getting their hair done, someone else will be getting their makeup done. then i just added on another half hour for getting dressed. my dress is easy to get on.

thanks girls! i will be getting my hair and make up done professionally, honestly i’m not sure how long it will take as i have not yet done the trial for that..will most likely do that closer to the wedding date…i have to see how many maids will be getting their hair done with me as well as makeup…

It took about 2 hours for my hair and makeup but I didn’t do them together. You should talk to your makeup artist and hairdresser in order to see how much time they think it will take to do your hair and makeup (and any BMs). We had 2 hours before to take pictures. So our wedding was at 6:30 and we met the photographer at 4 for pictures (I didn’t really care to have pictures of the getting ready since it was just me).
