Our reception is going to be from 3-6 on a Sunday so we aren’t going to be serving a sit down dinner and I’m wondering how many appetizers we should plan on… We’re also considering having a risotto bar to give something more substantial, so with that, how many things should we offer? One example of an appetizer would be a bacon wrapped scallop…

Since its a short reception I would only offer finger foods that could be served with toothpicks maybe. Have you thought about fruit, cheese and crakers, hot wings, meatballs, etc…Are you guys serving cake?

i would probably go with 8. I’m not sure where I came up with that number, but it seems like it would be a decent amount. I know that I would get hungry enough by 5 to eat 8 small things

if you are having the appetizers instead of dinner, then you should serve 12 pp. i would consider the risotto bar as 2-3 of the apps so you will need 9-10 pp.
have 50% of your appetizers stationary and the other half passed.

We did a heavy hors d’ouvres reception, too. We did veggie crudites and cheese/crackers with our mocktail hour, and then 10-12 bites PP for hots. We served hot wings, parmesan wings, chicken skewers, sausage and cheese stuffed mushrooms, ham and chicken salad tea sandwiches, mini reubens, jalapeno poppers, and mini quiche. For dessert we had a chocolate fountain with fruit and dippers (cookies, wafers, marshmallows) and our wedding cake. Everyone was STUFFED.
