I was wondering if there were any other brides who were not going to change out of their wedding dresses at all during the reception.  I am on the fence myself.  First I love my dress and would probably try to find any excuse to justify wearing it for as long as possible.  Second I love the idea of my FI and I climbing into our exit vehicle (still to be determined) and arriving at our hotel in the city that night with our wedding garb on.  What do you guys plan to do?

I'm definitely not changing!! I love my dress too much to get out of it before I absolutely have to! Plus, FI and I aren't so much leaving as we are walking across the venue to go to our hotel room (it's a wedding venue and a small hotel), so it's kind of silly!

I don't know, it depends on how heavy my dress is! But I'll probably wear it the whole night- only get to wear one of those suckers once!

It never occurred to me to change. I think it's a small minority of people who do change, at least in the parts of the US I've been to weddings ... (Northeast, California, Florida)

We decided to wear out our wedding stuff and I don't regret it because of the pics, but I do know that uttered "oh my damn, I wish I had gotten a reception dress" more than twice during the reception!!

I'm not changing either. And I doubt we'll really "exit", because I plan on partying all. night. long. Laughing

I'm not changing. It just seems like a waste to me to buy TWO dresses I'll only wear once. I'm also not exiting. We will likely even meet up with friends/family in bar after the reception and continue the party. Everyone is from out of town and our families don't get together often.

I didn't change.  Though it was us pulling into the house that night in our wedding clothes, not a hotel.  So romantic lol.

I think I'll stick it out in the dress all night.  I guess I should bring a backup just in case my dress gets annoying.  I doubt it will though but I have heard some horror stories about faulty bustles.

The little white dresses that alfred angelo sells are amazing, but i love my dress too darn much to change out of it. @Laylabelle-i bet i will have wished i had changed but since i got my bustle i think ill be a-okay.

I do however want to shorten my dress after i wear it andd im still wondering about that.

So, no, youre not the only one wearing your dress all night long.. i mean its only one day you get to wear it, so keep it on as long as you can!!

I haven't really thought of what I plan on doing--- depends on how much I've dropped on the dress, i suppose!! I doubt we'll have much of a budget for "costume changes"

I'm not sure what I'm doing yet... I'm a little afraid that if I don't change, I won't fit in the car at the end of the night. ;)

We didn't have a fancy limo either.  It was just our regular car that we drove every other day!  So glamorous!

That is a good point about the exit photographs!  I saw a great photo where the newlyweds were leaving their reception still all decked out with "thank you" signs slung over their backs.  Great for the thank you cards that need to be sent out later.  I have heard some bustle horror stories too but I am hoping to arm myself with strong safety pins and extra strength sense of humor ;)

BTW, I didn't have any problem with my bustle.  We made sure to double knot all the strings before the reception since we wouldn't have to untie them again.

Yeah, definately after party dresses would be awesome! i have never heard bustle horror stories, mine should be pretty secure though?

Also, those thank you notes slung on the back sounds too cute, i might steal that idea haha

Well FI and I just decided on which vehicle we'll be driving off in....his jeep LOL.  We are going to go to a hotel though.  I have two young children (my daughter will be a young MOH and my son will walk me down the aisle) who are having the "best ever" sleep over back at the house with my nieces and nephews (who are also in the wedding).  My sister, who must be insane and incredibly wonderful, will be staying with all the kiddos.  It wouldn't have been too romantic to come back to this particular sleep over but a part of me would still love to be a fly on the wall while they all talk about the wedding.

I kind of dont get the idea of having more than one dress. We spend so much time looking for the perfect dress, why would you want to change out of it? Those hours you get to wear it for the wedding are not even enough for me. Plus the idea of changing into a short gown I really dont get. You can wear a white short dress anytime. wearing a long wedding dress is a once in a life time thing.  I know I wil be sad taking my dress off at the end of the night!

I'm not changing.  For me, it's partially due to cost, but also because I LOVE my dress and don't want to deal with buying another one.

Us too! Normal car, went home.. honestly, I didn't want anything else at the end of the night.

My bustle didn't break either... mine was a three tie bustle and I've heard that the ones with buttons break more often.

FYI - my dress was a strapless mermaid, not corseted, but definitely boned. It stared to chafe under my arms by the end of the night - buy a band-aid friction stick!!

Now that I think back, I don't think ANY of my clients have EVER changed out of the dress for the exit.  My roommate had a 2nd dress that she was going to change into during the reception... never happened.

I wore my dress out, and got into a regular car, no problem.  My bustle did break--it was the type with hook and eyes.  I was armed with velcro dots to fix it, which worked for a bit, but the second time it pulled out, I gave up and carried it around all night.

I am wearing my dress the whole reception but we are having an after party so I am wearing a white cocktail dress for that. I love the old-fashioned idea of going away outfits though!

I've only ever seen multiple dress changes at Asian weddings and since neither of us are Asian, that's not exactly anything that I have considered doing for that reason. As expensive as wedding dresses are, it doesn't make sense to me personally to spend extra money for a reception and/or getaway dress. And even if you wear you wear your wedding dress the entire time and don't change into something else, it's still only a few hours you'll be wearing it. So I have every intention of wearing the same dress all night.

I wore my wedding dress in a cab to the hotel and it was a lot of fun to arrive in our wedding attire.

You couldn't pull me out of my dress! I am all for the dramatic dress, since I'll only be wearing it once, I want to wear it all night.

I LOVE my dress, and nothing could make me change out of it during my wedding night.  Well.... maybe the Mr. could at the very end of the night.  *Wink wink*.  I also agree about not wanting to buy 2 dresses that will each only get worn once.

@elliemae That is so funny, my FSIL totally does this!  She told my fiance and I every anniversary she puts on her wedding gown, holds up the number of fingers for her anniversary, and takes a picture. She doesnt know what shell do after year 10 :)

I'm definitely wearing the same dress from the ceremony until we get to the hotel room.  I chose a short dress to begin with, so the get away shouldn't be too tough.
