Assume that you need 2 oz for every hour that you will be away from your baby (breast milk will top out as far as ounces around 3 months and the calorie content will change). Then decide how often you want to wash bottles. I wouldn't necessarily register for all of them now because you baby may not like the bottles you bought. We invested heavily in Breastflow bottles and he really preferred the Dr. Browns. So those are the ones we reinvested in. We have probably 20 bottles in both big and small sizes. At any one time we are storing between 5 and 10 in the fridge.
I would get a few of several different kinds until you see what you and baby prefer. Once y'all have figured that out, I second asking yourself how often you want to wash bottles. I personally hate doing it. I think because it's like making the bed--neverending. So we have enough so that we can wash every other day.
I got the Tommee Tippee starter pack which contained 6 bottles. Up until this point we only bottle fed 1X per day but given I will be going back to work next week she will probably get 3-4 bottles while I'm gone. I'm not planning on getting anymore. We hand wash the bottles after each use so there should be a clean dry one always available. I would pick a brand you want to try first, and if your LO doesn't like it then buy another.
And yes if you are EBF then they would be used with your stored breast milk.
It really depends if you are BF only or doing formula/BF bottled. We have 7 bottles currently in rotation and have 3 bottles in the fridge right now with 3 to 4 oz of breast milk in each bottle. I watched a video on how to mix formula and they said at least 6 bottles for a day

I am assuming they would be used when I am at school and DH needs to feed her. Or when a babysitter (aka Grandma) needs to. They would (hopefully) be used with stored breast milk...right?
So how many bottles should I register for?
Thanks!!
