Nikkimcq:  I didn’t do a speech. I’m not sure I’ve ever been to a wedding where the bride gave a speech.

All the weddings I’ve been too either the Bride or the Groom, or sometimes Both will say a little something. I’ve been to a lot of weddings with “no” Speeches in those situations the bride or groom will still saying something, even if its just thanking the guests for coming.

I tried to write one, but at this point I think I will just wing it.

I did a speech at our wedding.  My DH is fairly shy, whereas I teach theatre, so obviously public speaking doesn’t really scare me.  I gave him the option of talking at the rehearsal dinner or the wedding, and he picked the RD.  I loved giving a small speech and being able to really and truly thank all of our loved ones for being there and being able to address my parents, new ILs, and of course my new husband!  It was super short and was after the “main” speeches (MOH, BM, FoB).  I liked doing it!

I’ve only rarely seen the bride do a speech.

Even though I could talk for hours, at our reception, only the Best Man, Maid of Honor, and Groom will do speeches.

We stood up and I thanked everyone for coming so far and celebrating with us at both the wedding and the reception. My husband doesn’t like to be the center of attention, and speeches and words come easily to me so I just said what came to mind, I didn’t write anything.

I’m one of the only brides who has done a speech from the wedding’s I’ve been to, although I think that all couples should thank their guests for coming as a group and say something.
