    When I lived in Florida? One, maybe.

    Now that I’ve moved into the freezing mountains (ok, just in AL, not freezing) – 3-4X this year.

    My biggest thing is that when I feel one coming on, I dope up Nyquil at night to sleep well. Sleeping is the biggest part of being functional for me and a good night’s sleep is invaluable.

    @sheepandbear:  Did you get your flu shot? Also, my best advice is don’t use the hand sanitizer like crazy … Only in places like airports, hospitals, schools, malls and work if you work in a large office building. Otherwise, it’s okay to have germs on your hands! And sometimes if you get sick frequently, it’s the same infection coming back to haunt you, so I’d go to your doc and see if you need antibiotics. Or you may even need to get your tonsils removed. And this year’s cold and flu season has been particularly heinous!!

    Start taking zinc daily and it will definitely help your immune system. Just make sure you have a full stomach and it shouldn’t bother you. I’ve been taking it for the past 3 years and have not had even one cold!! The flu has gone through my office a couple of times, I’ve been around my sick nieces, and my FI has had a few bad colds – but me? Nothing 🙂 Its the only vitamin I take so I know it is whats responsible.

    It also helps you get over a cold more quickly, too. My FI only takes it when he is sick (silly, when he could have prevented it) but he gets better in a day or two.

    I used to almost never get sick.  But then, I worked at a small company where I had a private office where I spent all day with my computer and a bunch of printers and hardly ever had to interact with actual people.

    Now I go to college full time where I sit in full classrooms and volunteer at a vet’s office around vet techs who are always around other people.  I get sick a lot.

    Ugh I am just starting a cold now, too! I have gotten 4 since September when I started working in a school! Conveniently they all happen to fall on weekends and/or breaks (right now is spring break) grrr! I think this year is especially bad with the indecisive/fluctuating temperature.

    Last year I worked in a nursing home and had 6 colds.. No joke! I was forever sick! But that’s what you get from working in a germy environment. Is your work germy?

    The worst part about constant colds is it wrecks your exercise routine! I am useless when I have a sore throat and am feeling weak and achy 🙁 makes me feel lazy, but your body definitely needs rest to recover.

    I take dayquil and sudafed, and repeat t/o the day. I stay away from alcohol, drink a ton of water and let my body rest.

    @adoc86:  +1 on the zinc! It’s been proven to help your immune system unlike vitamin c which has  never been proven.

    You need to train yourself to never touch your face. most people touch their face something like every 10 seconds. I work with sick people, and this combined with vigilant hand washing keeps me sickness free.

    @sheepandbear:  Yup, just normal zinc. I take one a day. When FI is sick he takes like 3-4 though.

    @sheepandbear:

    You need a poll option for zero. I have terrible year round allergies and uncontrolled asthma, and I’m prone to pneumonia (even in the warmer months), but I never get colds or any other sickness besides the three listed above. I think God decided to spare me from colds and everything else since I am already miserable literally 24/7.

    i only get sick MAYBE once a year and it never lasts more than a day (if serious like throwing up/diarrhea) or a week if it’s minor (like sinus stuffed up or something). i love my immune system it’s so awesome. i don’t do anything special really. i enjoy vegetables and fruits and love working out. everyone else in my family gets sick all the time so i don’t know what it is.

    haven’t been sick in 5 years – I wouldn’t get a flu shot if they paid me (they basically do nowadays!).  My immune system rocks 🙂
