For 150 guests, I would guess you would want between 200 and 300 cupcakes. So that’s… 17 to 25 stands.  So many 20 or 25 to keep it at a more balanced number?  Maybe put some on stands and some directly on a table for a leveling effect?

I would personally do separate tables so that it is not overwhelming for guests.  Some people will want to spend oodles of time choosing a cupcake while some will want to poke through the candy.  So two tables will let people easily choose what they want.

wowwww i would not put out all 200 or so cupcakes on stands that small. either have a few stands and have them replenished or use a large cupcake stand that will hold all of them. i do cupcakes for weddings and people in your area probably rent out large cupcake stands like i do. mine holds 200 cupcakes but can be made smaller to hold less. they’re make to resemble a tiered cake. good luck!

@phaedrakay:  we’re doing a cupcake per person. It’s what they’re RSVP’ing for. It’s what they know they’re getting. We’ll have a few extra cupcakes. But it’s an all you can eat buffet. Call me cheap. But, I do know our cupcakes are RICH heavy cakes. Our bakery is letting us rent one. So we don’t get stuck with a cupcake stand that holds 150 cupcakes.

Have you thought of doing one large stand, it might be easier if you are going to have that many cupcakes
