Hi bees, I couldn’t find the older posts regarding this, so I have to open a new post~ So I have ask around cupcake vendors in town, I figure the norm is $2.50 per cupcake for a simple one or $3.50+ for fondant design. Roughly $30 -$50 for a small tier and $30-$50 for stand rental. I have about 200 guests, and we are having 10 courses meal (chinese banquet) with dessert included. How many cupcakes should I be ordering? I’m thinking to order 140 cupcakes, would it be enough? or should I order exactly 200 cupcakes??? Please share your experiences. Thank you!!

gpiglet: I think unless you know for sure that X number of guests are 100% gluten free and will not eat a cupcake, you have to have one for every guest, so I would say 200.

I would say at least 1-1 1/2 per person especially if they are good!

You need at minimum 1 per person. I think that as PP’s said, general recommendation is 1.5 per person. I think we just did one. Some will have more than one and some people won’t have one at all.

We had a 12″ round cake plus 200 largeish cupcakes for 165 guests, and EVERYTHING got eaten! But it was a pretty long party, and we didn’t have nearly as much food as yours sounds like.

gpiglet: I used to design wedding cakes and I did cupcakes for a friend’s wedding once – there were soooo many left over at the end of the night!
If you are also having tons of food AND a dessert course I would say you definitely do not need 200 cupcakes. Probably around 150 is fine.
Alternatively, if you are set on having one cupcake per guest, you can also set up some cellophane bags with silver twist ties for guests who would like to take a cupcake home.

I did mini cupcakes and ordered 1 per guest (150). We had a plated dessert so I figured we wouldn’t need a ton of cupcakes. We ended up with about 15 leftover.
