So many of my friends told me that the first dress they tried on was the one they bought. What?! I wish I was that lucky... but the decision took me forever. I tried on every style out there... and ended up choosing the 35th dress I tried on.
So... how strange is that? How many dresses did you try on before finding "the one?"

I tried on "the one" then 4 more, then "the one".
I was lucky enough to know exactly what I wanted when I went in :-)
Your post reminds me of the movie 27 Dresses (is that right?) with Katherine Heigel! LOL! So which dress did you pick? Please post!
I love your pics ;)
I tried on only about 3-5 before finding THE ONE!
I can't really remember, but I know it was less than 5 and at the second shop that I went to.
the first store i went to - i tried on 5 and when i was going to call it a day, my mom found one that someone didn't want and the 6th one was it!
I went to 9 bridal stores and probably tried on 60+ dresses before finding the "one".
Technically, none!
But I did hours upon hours of online shopping first.
I believe I tried on 17 dresses before picking the one I loved. However, the one I picked was the 5th dress I tried on and the only one that I had picked out online. I knew I loved it but I wanted to make sure I tried on a bunch of styles first. I couldnt be happier!
it was the first dress i ever tried on. but i tried on 6 more so i could get the whole experience and make sure it was "the one." & then i put it on and couldnt have asked for a better dress :)
3 J Crew-ordered and returned
7 Nicoie Miller-liked them all, had a few contenders
7 Vera Wang- my second choice- almost bought one
8 assorted designers-nothing worked
1 Alix and Kelly- my perfect dress!
Total-26
I tried on 30-40, but I didn't take pictures of them all- most looked so bad I didn't want photographic evidence, lol! I went to 5 different shops, then went back to two over again, and I tried on about 10 more after I initially tried on "the one" before going back to it.
I tried on 3 before falling in love with my dress. I thought I knew waht I wanted but was mistaken.

I didn't include THE dress...but I tried on about twice this...only made a board of the good and the bad here! lol
well I went to the Filene's Bridal event - I think I tried on at least 20!
I probably tried on over 30.
I went to 4 different places, and at 2 places you weren't allowed to take pictures so I honestly can't remember how many I tried on a each of those places. But it was A LOT. Funny enough, I ended up choosing a dress that I tried on close to last, and it was a dress my consultant picked out!
I almost bought the first dress I tried on. But I didn't love it, and really wanted to try some other stores so that I could see more that was out there.
I tried on about 4 or 5 of them and I tried on about 5 more after I found the one, just to make sure. But, once I slipped on the dress I bought, I knew it was right and nothing else would beat it.
I tried on 6 total, but the 5th one was my dress!
I love the photo collages! I probably tried on over 50 dresses, but don't have photo documentation. From the title of this post, I wasn't sure if it was about wedding gowns or boyfriends. I think I've tried on more wedding gowns than boyfriends, fortunately, to find "the one"
Wow I kind of wish I could have tried on more! I found one I loooooved online. I was sure it was the one. but then it looked horrible on me. The dropped waist for some reason hit me too high and made me look lumpy! It was a cool 1930s gown style and I was so bummed. The second one was the one. Fitted sheath lace gown, strapless. Flowly to the floor so it looks kind of beachy. It was crazy- as soon as I put it on, before I saw myself, I knew it was the one. Ha that's kind of how I was about my fiance. After our 3rd date, I got this crazy feeling I was going to marry him.
haha well most of the boutiques I went to wouldn't allow us to take pictures of the dresses (couture places).
I tried on soo many dresses... I think I went dress shopping about 7 times. I tried on at least 10-15 dresses.
I actually found THE dress at the second boutique I went to in NYC, it was probably seventh dress I tried on, but I couldn't afford it. I went to three more places in NY and found nothing.
Once I got to MN I I went to three more stores before finding the one I ended up buying!
It was the first dress I tried on.
I tried on about 10-12 others just to make sure that the first one was as good as we thought it was....but none of them even came close!
I also tried on approximately 30 or so dresses at 4 different shops. At some point, they all start to look the same, and it's hard to remember the ones you actually liked! I felt bad for my family that came along for the dress shopping, because I was indecisive, but I found a dress last week -- no more shopping!
15 dresses at one marathon david's bridal session. the one i bought was number 6 or 7. I didn't take photos though - didn't even think of it actually.
The first dress I tried on was the one! After that I tried on about 10 more dresses then I tried on the one again!!!!!
My dress was number 53 out of 55 dresses I tried on. I kept track of them by writing details of each dress on my little notebook and then copying that to a spreadsheet on my computer, and my MOH helped me develop a ranking system that went like this: "boo", "meh", ":-)", "1 heart", "2 hearts", "3 hearts".
@azula - I love your ranking system & organization! The dresses were probably the ONE part of the wedding I didn't use spreadsheets for, haha.
My dress wasn't just the first one I tried on, it was the first one I looked at on the internet, the first one I saved into my "Notebook" on the knot (I don't use that website for much but it has a few great tools). The more I looked at other dresses, the more I could see myself wearing a few different styles (the vast majority of which were not ball gowns, but "the one" sure is), but I also found myself loving "the one" more. When I went to try on dresses, I tried on "the one" first, then a few more I'd REALLY loved online, and they didn't even compare. I plan to try on A LOT more dresses just for the heck of it, but nothing compares to the one and I know I'm sticking with it, though I won't be able to buy it till the summer when my mom can come up and see it.
Four stores, maybe forty dresses. I'd say at least ten at each store, maybe less at a few. But I took longer to decide because I didn't know if I wanted the classic sweetheart, strapless, corseted, A-line gown or a more modern, light, flowy, more beachy-type dress. So I tried on a lot!
The first one I tried on was it. I tried on about 15 more after that, just for fun.
I would say about 28... although I bought one after like 10 dresses, fell out of love it, and then tried on the rest... with the 28th dress being the one.
way too many to count. I enjoyed dress shopping too much. I'm embarrassed to say i tried on over 100 dresses!
I like how you took a picture of every dress you tried on. I visited five bridal salons and tried on countless dresses before finding mine online haha!
