Out of curiosity, how many languages do you ladies speak?
I speak 3 fluently and 1 so-so.
Fluently: Portuguese, French and English
So-so: Spanish
I speak English and French. I would love to learn Spanish and Italian
I speak three fluently and 1 so so as well.
English, Cantonese, Fujianese, Mandarin. Oh wait, that's four, dang it!
And I use to be pretty good at Spanish, took 6 years of it, not any more though!
I speak english, and I know sign language. So I voted 2.
English and French fluently
My spanish is passable.
Just one, though I used to be pretty good at German, but all that knowledge left me after not using it at all for 5 years.
I speak Spanish well enough to get by if I needed to. I understand and can read way more than I can speak or write. And obviously I speak English. I wish I knew Italian so I wouldn't be so clueless on our honeymoon.
I only speak 1 fluently (English).
I took Spanish for 6.5 years in middle and high school and was close to fluent in it at that point (a few months of immersion probably would have gotten me there). But I haven't really used it since then (6.5 years ago) so it's pretty weak now. I'm sure a lot of it would come right back if I was put in a situation of using it again though.
I'm fluent in English and Japanese. I can speak a bit of Spanish if put on the spot, but most of what I learned in high school is gone.
English. My French and Italian are pretty good too, but not fluent by any means. It's hard to keep it fresh when you're not using it!
I speak English only. Took two years of Spanish in High school and have forgotten just about everything, sadly. It would really benefit me to learn to speak it again though.
Speak 3 fluently, 2 proficiently, and I can converse in 2 more.
@bakerella: that's why I love my job, I get to speak French everyday :-)
@Wonderwoman217: LOL... :)
English for me. Anything I learned in high school is gone. DH and I have discussed learning German through Rosetta Stone and hopefully going overseas. He knows quite a bit from high school still.
English, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese and bits of Japanese, Korean, Thai and Russian.
Only English fluently. I know basic French and sign language though.
I'm fluent in English and German (born and raised in Germany), I can converse in Filipino, but I'm not good enough to read or write. And I've been in Spain for almost 4 months now, so my Spanish is getting pretty good aswell. I can understand mostly everything, but speaking is always harder!
I wish I'd taken more languages in high school, but I stuck with 5 years of Latin because it was fun. I can see how it's helping me learn Spanish now, but sometimes I wish I'd have taken Spanish or French.
French is my main Language, and now I live in English so 2.
My Spanish is rather poor.
English is my first language, and I'm semi-fluent in Spanish. My professor's definition of "fluent" is: "the ability to hold daily conversations, discuss abstract ideas, and criticize the president." I'm getting there.
I'm also proficient in profanity and sarcasm.
@Wonderwoman217: You beat me to it. That was my answer as well.
English and I'm semi-fluent in French. By semi-fluent I mean that I understand most everything when reading/being spoken to, I just have a hard time coming up with the right words to respond in French at times.
I speak English, obviously. My Italian is so-so. I could get by in Italy for sure. I could probably get by in France again, as well. I used to be much better at speaking at French a few years ago. Haven't used it in awhile!
@chasesgirl: If you speak Spanish you will definitely get by on your honeymoon :) You'll be able to understand a lot of what people are saying.
I said one, English. But I have passable Spanish for getting around (directions, hotels, meals, etc) and I can also do some pretty decent ASL.
One and a half. :) I've never been fluent in Spanish, but there have been times when my Spanish has been pretty good. I've always been better at written than spoken language, though.
@Miss Fish: I love this!===> "the ability to hold daily conversations, discuss abstract ideas, and criticize the president."
I'm fluent in English (obviously) and Castillian Spanish.
I speak English and Indonesian fluently, and enough Spanish to get by. I would really love to learn French one day.
I am only fluent in English, I know enough Spanish to get by if I had to, and I know a little French (enough to get the basic idea of a conversation or what I am reading).
Well, I just took the DELF a few hours ago, so I guess I'll find out if I actually know my French or not...
I feel like a loser. Just English for me ;-( I took 3 years of Latin...so it will be a little easier for me to learn a new language someday, if I choose to!
English, Cantonese, another dialect of Chinese. I loooooove knowing another language, its just so convient sometimes when you dont want someone else to understand for one reason or another.
@pinkshoes: AAAAAAAAAAAAA MEN! DH and I love speaking Chinese to each other in a room full of Texans!
@pinkshoes: Same here! I love speaking Portuguese with FI in the middle of a room full of english ppl, they look at us like we're from another planet lol
@elliestan: @couawilou: aahh, jealous!! I wish my husband spoke chinese. I'm trying to get him to learn but its near impossible for the English tongue to make the sounds. And half the time he doesnt even hear the differences. =(
