Bump. Same question as Fifi, have any Bee's used LED bulbs with paper lanterns, have any pictures?
I am having the same problem! I have tried two different LED lights... some from Wal-Mart and others from Save-On Crafts. Here is the link to Save-on Crafts...

Let me know what you find out! I'd love to light up my paper lanterns, too! :)
i was at biglots today looking for scrapbooking stuff and they had all these paper lanterns round, square with lights included. they were like 6 12 in high lanterns (square) for $12 and 3 medium round lanterns for $8.
I just bought the 3 bulb led light from lunabazaar.com, and will hopefully receive them soon. I'll be sure to report back!
great! thanks katie! I'm thinking of ordering from them as well, so please let me know how everything turns out.
Ok - follow up:
I just got the 3 LED light kits from Lunabazaar.com. So, first you should count on about 2 weeks for shipping, which I wasn't really expecting. Anyway. They look great and are easy to use, but I noticed that the "clear" emits an almost blue light. I don't mind, but I know there are color sticklers out there. Not sure if you can find other LED's that are more clear in color, or if its just the nature of LED.
Oh and I am using 8 and 10 inch lanterns. The 3 bulb LEDS are nice and bright in them.
Someone did a post recently about lighting paper lanterns with "throwies" which is a much cheaper alternative. I just purchased the supplies for 100 lights on ebay for $30 including shipping, and
Someone did a post recently about lighting paper lanterns with "throwies" which is a much cheaper alternative. I just purchased the supplies for 100 lights on ebay for $30 including shipping, and they easy to make.
Google search "throwies" to get instructions.
I am planning on using 1 ultra bright light per lantern, but I only want them lit very softly, and I haven't tried it yet.
I also am planning onusing lanterns but the large 24" and 30". Has anyone used this size and did the 3 led lights work brightly enough in them? I also wondered if the throwies worked out?
I'm working on the throwies now and I'll blog about it soon... we found that 3 of the "diffuse" white LEDs light a 14" lantern really well (could probably be bigger and still work). The "clear" white LEDS- not so much.
Tiramisu, I'm pretty sure I know what 'throwies' you are talking about, but aren't they mostly designed to stick to metal surfaces? Would someone please enlighten me as to the method for installing them in paper lanters?
Thanks!
Jamato- just leave out the magnet, and hang with fishing line from the wire frame of the lantern. You can see my original post about it here:

Hope that helps!
Has anybody tried regular christmas lights? You know how they have the little bulbs to replace burnt ones? Would they work the same as LED but brighter?
Just throwing it out there see if anybody tries. :)
i am ordering 41 asian lanterns for my wedding next june, sizes 12in to 30in. i am a little anal retentive so i will be buying them this month along with the "throwies", 12 bulb LED lights, and 3 bulb LED lights. i will let you know how it goes and which lights work better as soon as they come in. Good luck ladies i know its stressful!
oh and if anyone was searching for asian lanterns i found a steal of a deal at:

They have tons of colors and sizes along with a variety of LED lights. Hope that helps! :)

Wow! cancel my previous comment! thanks to tiramisu i will be saving a TON of money by buying from the Paper Lantern Store online. thanks so much tiramisu! i would highly recomend reading her post about throwies and asian lanterns. she gave the link a few comments above.
I found this website that has prelit battery lanterns. http://paperlanternstore.com/sectionc.html
I went the throwie route for my wedding this past weekend. I used 3 10 mm warm white diffused LEDs per lantern (both 8" and 12'). Each LED gets it's own battery (2032CR i think). These were very bright and I didn't need any additional outside lighting (outdoor wedding). If you want a "warm white" light instead of bluelish be sure to get "warm white". If you want to avoid "spotlight" effects in the laterns be sure to get "diffused" lights. Learned this the hard way. Also when when making the "switches" to turn them on use thin cardboard. I tried some with business cards and it was a nightmare to turn them on because the paper was ripping. Making them took longer than i thought too so make sure you give yourself enough time.
I had some extra "white" (not warm white) light so i positioned them to point up and out of the lantern in some of them to give the ceiling of the tents a spotlight effect; it looked pretty cool and I wished I'd done them all like that.
Oh another tip, you can bend the LED to put them at different angles in the lantern to light the whole thing up.

Hello everyone! I was just wondering for those of you who have used LED light bulbs to light paper lanterns, did you get the single bulb, three-bulb, or 12-bulb? Also, what size paper lanterns did you use? Thanks!!! :)
