I'm planning to sell about $200 worth of stuff...eventually. I borrowed a lot of things for the wedding, and some are not resellable, so I have left a lot less than I thought...but definitely those decor items are a fairly easy sell depending on colors and location.
Obviously, if you sell big things, like your dress, you get a much higher percentage back.
However, I wouldn't bank on getting the money back, but treat it as a bonus. You'd hate to plan on getting the money and then not be able to sell (or part) with some of your wedding items!
We got about 50% back of what we paid for the things we sold. It amounted to a just a few hundred dollars, but it helps.
We're doing destination in Florida. A very much DIY affair for the most part. The glassware we buy for the centerpieces and anything for the decor that we won't want to keep, will be donated to the local Goodwill for a tax write off.
I'm trying to sell as much as possible!!! I bought a lot of stuff on Craigslist and am going to post on there as well.
I'm making my dress, so I can't sell that. I'm having larger centerpieces, groupings of 10 vases or so on each of our 17 tables = atleast 170 vases. Even if I break them up and sell smaller bunches, I'm hoping I can get that cash back. (I've saved by getting vases for free from Freecycle, cheap from Craiglist and Value Village too).
Is there any other things that people would want to buy or that you've surprisingly sold?
I keep planning on posting my stuff, but for now it's just gathering dust in the basement. One of these days. I'll probably sell the ball jars and other vases. The leftover flip flops. Shells and other things I didn't use. I'm not sure what else people may want.
I agree with LatteLove. I don't plan on getting a whole lot for our wedding supplies. I'm also treating is as extra cash just to have for a rainy day. We bought about 200 votive candle holders and plan to sell all those, as well as some of our candy bar dishes and scoops and picture frames, etc.
I don't think you can really expect to get too much for it, but having the extra cash come in after-the-fact is really fun! We plan on putting it toward a super fancy dinner out, which we haven't done since we got back from our September wedding.
I sold almost everything that someone would actually want to buy, other than glass candle holders that weigh too much to make it worth it, and my dress/veil - I need to keep those for awhile, to collect dust I guess!
I have to say that shipping cost me A LOT.... I thought I gave myself enough wiggle room when I included shipping in the purchase price, but ended up using over 1/4 of the money on shipping! I was bummed about that.... but was happy to make some money back from my splurges!
PS: it helps if you buy second hand in the first place to re-coup some of the money!
I bought my centerpieces on craigslist, so I hope to help another bride out by selling it back on craigslist.

Hey bees! My fiance' and I are paying for 90% of our wedding ourselves. I'm really counting on selling stuff after the wedding to re-coop some of our cash! Have you guys done this? I think I can sell our vases, table runners, and other misc. decor. And depending on what we get for gifts, I'm sure there will be a few things I can part with! Have any of you guys done this or plan to do this? How much of your total budget did you end up getting back?
