Just wondering to see what other people did. I'm nervous/excited about trying on dresses for the first time  next weekend but dont plan to buy one yet just get an idea of style and size so I can buy one when I go to NY and see my mom and sisters.

I took my mother and my brother.  My mom was really excited and my brother is my "man of honor" and is always completely honest if something looks completely stupid.

I don't like to count my very first trip because it was a nightmare, but I just had my Mom with me.  The time I actually consider my first trip I had my Mom & Grandma.  A few other people came along for other trips, but for the re-try when I bought my dress I had all 4 bridemaids, my other Grandma, and my Mom.

My mom, my younger sister (MOH) and my fiance's mom.  He's an only child and we've been together since high school, so I brought her along.  The trip where I bought my dress I had a lot more people there, though.

I only brought one person with me throughout dress shopping.  I went with my friend or alone the first time.  The second time I took my mom.  The third time I took my mom & dad and bought my dress.  This allowed me to see what I liked and then my mom helped me narrow down my favorites.

I brought my mom.  In retrospect, I wish I had also brought one trusted friend.  Final decisions were made on my own.  I don't recommend more than 2 or 3 people.

I actually went alone my first time, it made it easy for me to figure out what I liked but it would have been okay to have maybe one friend along to get someone besides the salespersons opinion. I went a few more times with friends and family and made my purchase after going back with my cousin. It can be overwhelming with all the pretty dresses out there! Have fun!

I brought my mom and my sister the first time.  The second time I brought my mom, sister, and two of my bridesmaids.  I wish I would have asked my FMIL! I anticipated trying on dresses a lot more, but I ended up buying my dress at the second store.  My FMIL has all boys, so she won't get to do the whole wedding dress shopping experience.  I think I'm going to invite her to my first fitting at least.

Just one person, my best friend who is also our unofficial stylist... Between us, we have enough difference in opinions to make up for my lack of bridesmaids thus far!

Just my mom and 2 sister. I wouldn't have wanted any more, or less than that. They were the ones who came on every dress shopping trip, and no one else ever was invited to join. Once I had bought my dress, I invited my grandma's to come see the first fitting.

I went by myself the first time. Most times I've gone, I went alone. I actually loved going by myself. It helped me figure out what I really liked and not what everyone else liked.

I was wondering because I don't want to go by myself. Thanksgiving week I will go with my mom and sisters in NY. But, next week I asked 3 friends to go with me here in Florida.

I took my wedding planner with me. I don't have a mom to take with me and no one else lives close by. She knew the look I was going for, so she kept me on track; otherwise, I probably would have been all over the place and to overwhelmed.

For the very first time... well, I snuck off and tried dresses on my own.  The first official time, I took my FMIL.  That was kind of a mistake, since we have very different styles and she sometimes had a hard time getting past that to see what worked for me and what I liked... but she was eager about it and wanted to.  Then I went on my own again for several more rounds, then when I found the dress I wanted I went back with my FSIL to confirm that it was "me" and looked fabulous.  She picked it on a blind test not knowing my favorite, so that cinched it. :)

I really liked shopping on my own, though.  I think I would have liked going to more places with my FSIL, too.  And if I'd had the opportunity to go with my mom (who lives across the country) I think I really would have liked that, because she knows me and my style and also has a really good eye for what works for my body.  But I NEVER would have taken more than one or two (absolute max) people with me.  Preferably one.

When I first went I took my mum and three bridesmaids. I went yesterday and bought a dress (woo hoo!) and just took my mum and it was really nice. I found it much more relaxing.

I went alone the first time.  And have a few other trips planned 1 with FMIL, 1 with my bestie, and likely 1 with my mom and sister.  I'll probably go back alone when I decide to purchase.

In seeing all this, I think I had a pretty huge group.  I went shopping in California, where I'm from, and went with my mom, 2 sisters (BMs), my friend/BM (who I live with but was coincidentally in California at the same time), and my MOH.  So, 5 people?  My sisters were only able to make it to the 1st appointment, but I think 3 was still a lot?

Luckily, everyone I brought was very supportive and didn't bring in any personal strong opinions.  And I had lots of fun :-)

I went with my mom, my sister, and two bridesmaids on my first time. I usually brought a big entourage with me, especially since my engaged friend and I went together so we had her friend too. But when I found "the one" I had just one bridesmaid with me!

I took one person- my BFF who was one of my matrons of honor.  I had no idea what I wanted. It was helpful to have one person when I figured out which styles looked best, and I actually found a dress I loved there.  I then went with my mom, a sister, nieces and the same MOH.  We went to other stores and back to the first place, which is where I purchased my dress..one of the first ones I tried.

I went with one of my sisters the first time.  She's a BM, and the MOH and my other sister were supposed to come too but they weren't able to at the last minute.  It was nice to have her there because she took pictures (we were at DB) and was able to text pictures to my Mom and MOH:)  Also, with just her there, I could really look at what I liked and I knew that she wouldn't be pushy with me.  We had a great time!

The very first time was on a whim with my MOH.  All of my other shopping trips were just with my mom.  I only brought a big group (all 4 BMs, my mom and aunt) when I had made the decision.  That was a lot of fun!

I brought my mother and father! She knows pretty much everything about fabric, quality construction, and fit; he has an uncanny ability to find things that will look great on me. It was low-stress (and believe me, I wasn't excited at all to shop for the dress) and we did find the one I eventually purchased.

I went with my mum and my MOH/cousin...it was great to have my mother there and I'm so glad she could come, but I have to say, I trust MOH's opinion more.  I think it's important to have someone who will help you feel beautiful, and also someone who won't let you get married looking silly!
