When we started our planning process we were told that a 60″ round table holds 8-10 people. Our seating chart has been made and we have a mix between 8 person tables and 9 person tables. Now, both my rental company rep and my wedding planner are telling me that 9 people at a table is too crowded when we have chargers but it would be okay if we didn’t have chargers. I can’t figurs out this logic. It seems like the guests would have the same shoulder to shoulder space regardless of whether or not chargers are in front of them, so is this because 9 chargers will not fit on the table or because it will look funny?
Any one have experience with this? Our wedding is in 2 weeks so we need to make a decision soon

jmcraig619: 72″ rounds hold between 8 and 10 people comfortably. A smaller table and I would think 9 people would be a bit tight.

We had 60 inch rounds and 8 was comfortable. 9 would have been incredibly tight and uncomfortable, and 10 would have been completely miserable.

8 is ideal for a 60″ table, but I think you could squeeze in 9 even with chargers. A practical wedding put up some nice pictures of what a 60 inch table looks like with different numbers of seats: http://apracticalwedding.com/2013/08/wedding-seating-chart-tips/

We fit 8 adults to a 60″ table comfortably. 9 probably would have been okay if at least one of them was a little kid.
We also had a 48″ table that fit 6 adults.

jmcraig619: We have 72 inch tables and we were told 8-10 people as well but when we went for our tasting on monday they said 8 per table which when I saw they layout I completely agreed. We aren’t having chargers or anything but chargers are usually bigger than the plates so I can see why they might say 9 is too many. Its not about shoulder space they are referring about. They are thinking the table settings (forks, knives, spoons, cups, plates etc). Did you pay for chargers or rent them? If you have to have them, I would say create more tables, if you don’t feel like you have to have them, get rid of the chargers and keep your seating plan the same! Good Luck!
ETA: Anyway you can get a table set up to see what it looks like before you can make a final decision?
