I have a dog(Cody), he was just a puppy when the FI and I started dating, then we got a cat(Rylee) 2 years ago. We were a family before we were engaged! lol.. and there's no way either of us would give a pet away once they come into our home. We'll probably end up getting another dog somewhere down the line.
When my FI and I moved in together he had no pets and I already had 5! I had three lovely kitties, a fabulous guinea pig and a horse.
We've been living together almost a year now and are up to 7. We have two more guinea pigs and a crazy puppy but I'm down one horse.
It was really easy for us becoming a family. FI loves animals so I was very lucky (I didn't think I'd ever find someone willing to take me and my zoo). The cats are completely in love with him and I think by getting the puppy it's really all come together.
Here's a few of them... they're just too cute!

We will have three. His two cats and my dog. I was definitely NOT a cat person before I met my boyfriend, but I've since changed my mind. hehe.
the boy toy has a husky, and i have a lab-golden crosses, and a cat, and we got another lab-golden together
whenever i go back home (he lives in our house in LA and i live in new orleans for school) we have the 3 dogs and my cat goes to live with my parents since his husky isn't cat appropriate and my cat is declawed.
we joke all the time about how "i can't believe YOUR dog just chewed up a toy"--when ever they do something"bad" we say its the other person's child... :D
we lived together for 2.5 years prior to me moving to go to school...so the kids all know and love, and miss each other...it was easier than i thought moving them in together the first time...
We got our dogs together, so we have two. But, he and I both know, that as soon as we are in a house and no longer in an apartment, we will be adding at least one more pug baby into the family.
wow, i love seeing all the pet lovers! emshaw--your babies are so cute. and 5--wow!
puggy, you should *totally* get a third.
as for us, we have two that we got together. i think he will put his foot down after this.
We have 3 pets right now. I got a dog after we'd been dating about a year but it wasn't really "our" dog, just mine. He had three cats, but one of them got out and ran away (still makes me so sad we couldn't find him!!). So now we moved in together last week and we have his two cats and my dog. So far the transition has been a little rough but we're working really hard to get my dog to leave cats alone.
We plan to get another dog at some point. I grew up in a house with two dogs and two cats so that seems like a perfect balance to me. (maybe my parents really like symmetry? two of them, two kids, two dogs, two cats... a boy and a girl of each haha). We also had lots of caged pets growing up like rabbits, hamsters, and fish. But, I'm 100% over caged pets. Too much work!
@miss pug - Notice I said at least one more ;) I'm wanting a herd of pugs. I'd be happy with four. They're addictive!
We have one dog, and we're planning on getting another one ASAP! We also really want a cat :-)
We have two cats and one horse right now. (One cat was his, one was mine/we adopted her together, and the horse I bought but he helped with.) In the future, we plan to get a dog, more horses, and more cats.
@ Miss Biner, same here.. I was not into cats.. at all! He grew up with them, but I love our little kitty. I'm scared to get another one though lol I want every cat to be just like her!

Right now we have a cat and a dog, and we're considering adopting a kitten.
No pets my FI is allergic to everything ;-(. I am hoping to find a puppy that he isn't allergic to once we have children
We have one English Bulldog right now. He's spoiled rotten! His name is Oxley- named for Ohio State Univ's first president! But when once we've settled a bit into our married life, we'd like to become foster parents for bulldogs.
@Jessica- Perhaps a Bichon Frise? They're non-allergenic dogs as they do not shed. Don't know if you're a large breed or small breed person. I had one growing up and I loved him and his personality so much!
We already merged our pet families! We both got our puppies before we moved in with each other, but when we were already dating, so they have known each other for their entire lives. I also came in with one black cat (Lola), and he got me another cat (the orange one) for my birthday last year (Dexter). It is a lot to keep up with, and we don't want any more, but we love them! The dogs are named Sea-bass (bulldog) and Atticus (black russian terrier)! Brace yourself for many photos...
@buckeye: your pup is to die for! Soo cute.
@miss.olive: your kitty looks like my cat, skipper:

Atticus is so cute and has an awesome name! I have never heard of a Black Russian Terrier before.
Thanks Puggy! He is the sweetest dog ever. Seriously. I really recommend the breed!
I have 2 dogs and 4 cats, he has 2 dogs and is planning on at least a third.
Our animals are our children and are a big part of our life. FI trains with his dogs 3-4 times during the week and has dog events most weekends. That is part of what brought us together, on our second date he brought his puppy and mentioned that it was so nice to be with someone who though nothing of pausing the movie to go pull socks out of his puppy's mouth.
We do not live together yet, but all the animals get along very well. (and all but 2 cats sleep with us). We are looking for a house or farm on at least 2-3 acres to move into together because we will be over the limit for dog numbers if we live in the city.
ahh FH and i cant wait until we get a place where we can have doggies - im getting a maltipoo or yorkie-poo or mayyyybe a cockapoo- something mixed with poodles since i have allergies :) he wants a german shepard but i told him thats a no-go unless he can find one thats half shepard half poodle LMAO
I had my dog Pepper Anne, before we moved in together. Then about a month after living together we found Izzy outside. Then we got Izzy a playmate when we were in Lexigton, little Josie. We'll probably get another dog once we get into a house. FI really wants a corgi or border collie.
@AOEBuckeye Wow that is the cutest dog ever! Thanks I am going to look into it ;-)
we got our dogs, bailey *beagle terrier & buddy *yorkie, together... our dog children :)
they stayed with me at my apt until we moved in together last september. but we've been a 2-dog happy family since! ;)
@ Miss Olive: Please tell me about Black Russian Terriors! I have not heard of them and your dog is adorable. How big are they, do they shed, are they agressive, etc?
@spaganya: maybe a silly question, but why don't you just get a poodle? if you're allergic, they are completely hypo-allergenic and do not shed. plus they are fantastically smart, adorable, pleasant to be around and great family pets. I can never understand why people get poodle crosses when...they could just get a poodle!
I came into the relationship with one pet, a horse. I grew up with dogs and knew I wanted one as soon as we were in a place that allowed them. FI has never had a pet in his life and really isn't a pet person
We are currently down a horse for a year, I leased him out while we were planning and paying for the wedding, but I can't wait to get him back!
We finally got a dog last summer - a standard poodle that is ours but is really "my" dog. He likes her enough but just doesn't bond to pets like I do, and I do all of the work with her and take her to get groomed, buy her food, etc and am definitely "her person". She is a much happier dog when she has a friend (we got her as an adult from a breeder so she isn't huge on being alone) so we're/I am hoping to add to the family in the next few months. Looking for another dog!
Would LOVE a Golden but I kind of like having a dog that doesn't shed, and I love love love my standard poodles. Hoping maybe a more "manly" dog might entice my FI to the other side though lol. We're going to "look at" some golden puppies and an adult female tomorrow.
Crappy picture, but here they are hanging out on the couch at the cottage:

FI doesn't have any pets, so he'll be "adopting" my two babies. I have a cat named Akiko and a dog named Maestro.
Who has pets and how many? Will you kepe them all or what? How will you become a family?
