We only met with one photographer. I think it was the biggest planning mistake we made.
We met with 3. One was out of our price range (our ideal) to see what the extra money got us. Two were right in our price range. We went with the one in our price range with whom we meshed better!
We met with one. We knew from the moment we were engaged that we would go with the photographer we decided on. Here is a link to his site for any other Michigan/Chicago Brides.
I didn't really "meet" with a photographer per se- a co-worker at one of my jobs does wedding photography on weekends and would give me a good discount since I've helped him out so I picked him.
I think more than 4 is definitely too many. That's just so time consuming and chances are you'll meet one you like before you even get to #4. We made appts to meet with 3 and actually met with 2 and cancelled the last appointment. Mostly, we already knew who we wanted before the meetings but the meetings helped solidify it.
We met with two. One that was in the $3000 range that we loved, and then my FI's mother freaked out that was too expensive, and forced us to meet with her and a $800 photographer that she found. They showed up to our meeting stoned and in their pajamas, and I'm not sure when the last time they showered was.
We went with the more expensive one, if you were wondering :)
I'm a bit of a photo snob and browsed endlessly for the right one. Once I found him, saw good reviews and had a great sit-down with him that was it. I was so convinced that I will love him that we recommended him to some friends before we've even had our wedding. They booked him too. His book and his personality really shine, Seattle brides check him out if you are browsing! Granted, we haven't used him YET but I'll report back in 11 days to let you know how it works out.
Honestly we only met with one photographer. We booked Bella Pictures but then I got scared from the bad reviews and cancelled our date with them. (spending that much money on potentially bad pictures makes me nervous.) Then I decided to go with a photographer that is new to the wedding scene but has been a professional photographer for many years. Her price is sooooo low that we couldnt refuse and the weddings she has done were really good. I asked her a million questions and she answered them all well. I will let you know after my wedding if we made a huge mistake or not.
I think 3-4 is a great number. We ended up only meeting with one, becase we loved him on the spot. But I had done phone interviews with two other photographers.
We met with one, but I did a lot of research before we met with him, so I already knew I'd want to sign.
I met with 4...I think it was important so I had something to compare each of them too, and compare how I meshed with each of them, etc.
We met with 3-4 in person, but that was after narrowing it down from the 50+ photogs I looked at online.
