How many pics did you get from your boudoir shoot?

    Like the subject line says...

I received about 75, but only LOVE about 15 of them. There are 9 more that I can live with, I suppose. Is this normal?

My photographer took 600 pictures, she narrowed it down to about 175 for me to choose from, I picked 72 and I loved almost all of them.  I love them even more now that they have been touched-up (the proofs were not).  I think it depends on what you were expecting; of the 72 I picked I think about 20 of them could be in a magazine, the rest I love but they aren't "wow".

I have no idea what "normal" is. I do know that we have a tendency to be hyper critical of ourselves, especially if we start comparing our pictures to those in Victoria's Secret or Maxim - keep in mind that those shots are 1 of hundreds, only the best get in the magazines.  So if you think about it, we only paid for one professional photo shoot, so really, how many "wow" photos can we expect?

She took about 200 photos, gave me about 75 to pick from and I had to pick 20 for the album. Just remember that your FH is going to love it and not be critical, so that mindset made it easy for me to pick the photos.

I think I got 250, and about 20-25 I like well enough to have printed.  Maybe one or two are magazine worthy as calioteach said!  Strangely enough, I like them less after my photog touched them up!  While her photoshop skills are pretty good, she made me look like someone else... took off birthmarks, made my stomach SUPER flat.  I know im not a size 0 but im not fat either!!!  I actually look like a bobble-head in some of the pictures (not sure how she accomplished that)  I dont think there is a "normal".  It depends on how professional/experienced your photographer is and how critical you are of yourself!

Hi ladies, some pro advice from a model here:

Quite frankly, at most professional photo shoots only one great picture is chosen - so you loving 15 out of 75 is quite fantastic! Keep in mind that you rarely examine yourself in your underwear, and probably never posing provocatively in uncomfortable poses under hot lots in a strange bed, so seeing yourself like that for the first time can be quite disconcerting. When I get proof sheets back, I rarely like more than a couple the first time I look at them. So I put them away for a day or two and come back with a fresh eye, and almost always find gems that I had overlooked.

We are our own worst critics. Trust me, your FI will see things very, very differently.

My photographer gave me over 400 on a disk (this was after her edits and she took out the more unflattering ones)! Most of them were great! I chose over 60 photos to put in a Blurb book for my fiance to give him on our wedding day. You can see some samples on my knot bio here:

Thanks, gals! I think you're right -- I know I'm being hypercritical. The pics that I love are totally Vogue-worthy. I did expect her to touch the others up somewhat, but it seems like they're just post-processed, not retouched. You know how some positions are just weird, and require some smoothing of sorts? There are a few of those. Oh well.

I have a question, did you use the same photographer for this shoot as the one who is shooting your wedding?  I want to do a boudior shoot, but fear that if I google that I will get some sleazy pop-ups, and I don't want to be wierd and ask my photographer to shoot a boudior shoot if that is not normal....

emmeeay-L, this type of photography is rather specialized, just like wedding photography (or headshots or nature) can be. Meaning, a lot of photographers specialize in a specific type. That's not to say that your wedding photographer wouldn't do a great job - but, like with any other vendor, ask to see specific examples of this type of work before you book.

I just Googled "boudoir photography" and no porn popped up, so you should be fine. You may also want to check out a site called Model Mayhem. It's a clearinghouse for models and photographers. You can search for photographers in your area using the Browse feature. Many of the photographers on this site shoot glamour, which when you boil it down is what you're looking for.

@Emmeeay -- nope, our wedding photog is a guy and I didn't really feel comfortable with him doing it. And the woman who shot them advertises it as part of her portfolio, where my wedding photog didn't.

I did not use my wedding photographer.  I used caroline tran from www.carolinetran.net -- she was amazing!

Thank you so much for the information!  How much (I know it can vary greatly from place to place- I live in Chicago) did it cost for the shoot?  Thanks again Bees- you are the best!
