I definitely believe that birth order affects your personality, so it probably affects who you choose as a partner! I'm an oldest child with a younger brother. Mr. Bee is an identical twin with an older sister and a younger sister. So he's a middle child in his family, but also a younger sibling since he has an older twin (twins take birth order seriously).
What about you? What is your birth order? What is your FI's?
I'm the oldest, with a younger sister and a younger brother. My FI is sort of an only child, but he's really the youngest. He has three older half-siblings from his fathers first marriage. They were finishing high school when he was born and only one stayed with them part-time, so he never really lived with any of them.
I'm an only child so I'm automatically wonderfully perfect and awesome in my parents eyes and my hunny is the youngest. It was always him and his older sister but you would think he was a middle child with the way he acts
I'm the eldest with one younger brother. My husband is the eldest with two younger sisters. We are both the coservative & responsible ones!
I was the middle child for most of my life, with a sister 2 years older, and a sister 4 years younger. When I was 15, my parents adopted a baby who is now 11 years old. So now I share the middle space. And I DEFINATELY think birth order has an effect!
My fiance is a middle child also, but he is the third of four and the youngest of 3 boys.
I'm both an only child and the oldest. ^_^ My parents divorced when I was little, my dad remarried later and had 2 kids, a boy and a girl. But I'm 14 years older than my sis, and 17 years older than my brother. And since I lived with my mom, I consider myself an only child in terms of personality. I'm spoiled, I admit it. He, on the other hand, is also a twin, and has 2 younger siblings. His twin sister is 11 minutes older (you're right mrsbee, they definitely take it seriously!), but due to complicated circumstances that aren't my business to tell, he basically raised his siblings, including his "older" sister. He was the one who made sure they got up in time to catch the bus and all those things. So he's WAY more responsible than me, and a lot more mature. But we're both aware of this, he chooses to be patient, I work to grow up, so I don't think it'll be a bad set up. ^_^
I'm the oldest of 4. Weirdly, I've only dated younger children. I think birth order has a profound effect on the individual!
I'm the oldest, by a lot - my sister is 10 years younger and my brother is 12 years younger. My husband is the youngest of 3, all close in age.
I'm the second of 4. But when I was a teenager (after my sis had moved out) we had some serious family issues and I raised my younger brothers for a while. So i have a weird combination of people pleasing and control freak... Almost split personality-ish some days.
He is the middle child of his mom's kids; three boys. Also, his mom despised him due to his father leaving her (all three boys have different dads) so he is an extreme extreme people pleaser. This is something we have been working very hard on! When he was 13 he met his dad who has 3 additional children. They are all three significantly younger then him though and he is not as close to them, though occasionally he'll pull the big brother / eldest child stuff out.
My control issues and his need for confirmation can really cause some issues sometimes. It really bothers me when he wont fight for himself though so luckily that middle child side of me keeps us from turning into an unhealthy duo!
I am the youngest and only girl, with 3 older brothers. My FI is the oldest with 1 younger brother.
I'm the oldest of 2 (sister also) and T is the oldest of 2 (he has a brother). We are all exactly the same age apart as our siblings-3.5 years older!
ooo i totally believe in the correlation between birthorder and personality :) i'm the oldest, with a younger brother and sister. my fiance is the youngest of 3.
I'm the older child with one sister. My fiance is the eldest of 3 boys. We're both very stubborn and independent, so I think birth order definitely has an effect.
I'm the oldest, just have one younger sister. The hubby is a twin, but he's 11 mintues older. We both act just like older siblings, too.
I am the oldest. I have a younger brother that I am very close to.even though we live in different countries My husband has one older brother.
Interesting topic and comments! I tend to wonder this about couples.. I read that you tend to date/marry someone who is in the same birth order as you. While not always true, it seems pretty common! Case in point...
FI and I are both youngest. I am the youngest of 5 girls, and he is the youngest with an older brother and sister. ![]()
We're both the youngest -- I have two older brothers; my FI has one. I'm not sure how the youngest child commonly behaves, but I was the high acheiver in my family, while my FI was the underachiever.
I am the anti-youngest child, apparently. I just Googled it and the list of personality traits that it produced includes: risk taker (I am not), immature (I'm the most mature sibling in my family -- just ask my parents!), attention seeking (I hate being the center of attention), and Idealist (i'm not -- I'm very much a realist).
I grew up as the oldest sibling; my younger brother is 8 years my junior and I definitely played 2nd mom to him. I do have 2 half brothers who are older than me (one from my mom's side and one from my dad's side), but I didn't grow up with either of them.
I have a brother and a sister- both younger. I am very much the typical oldest child! Mr. Powder Puff on the other hand has two older step-sisters (his dad remarried when the mister was 6), and a younger brother.
I am the youngest. I have 5 older sibling; 3 sisters and 2 brothers. My FI is the oldest of 2 kids.
We're both the oldest of three...supposedly that combination is bad or something, but I think we'll be ok :)
I am the oldest and I have two younger brothers. My fiancee is the youngest (but only by 11 months), but I think that definitely has an effect on our personalities. I've always only dated the youngest in the family...I think it's because I'm so bossy!
I believe that birth order truly does have a profound affect on people. I'm the second oldest, with an older brother and twin younger brothers. However, my older brother has mild autism and so as a result, I have had to play the role of an older child throughout my life: I was the first to drive, move out, date, graduate from college...and now the first to get married! My SO is an older child with two younger siblings. I think I tend to get along better with people who were the "older" children in their families.
My FI and I both the eldest children. He has a younger sister and I have a younger brother :) We are really different though, I don't know if he birth order affected us or our relationship. We're both just awesome.
I am the second oldest of 5. My Mr. is the oldest of three. I don't think either of us fit the stereotypes.
I am an only child & Mr Happily is #3 of 10. I have dated other "onlies" in the past and that just never worked...and I always dreamed of marrying someone with siblings so my children will have aunts & uncles :)
I am the 2nd oldest of 9. We're all amazlingly close in age (this year we're 23, 22, 21, 21, 20, 19, 18, & 17). Except my little sister who is almost 2. I always acted like the oldest (was the 'little mother') b/c my big brother wasn't all that interested in acting like one then.
88Mfiance is the youngest. He has an older sister, but she is 4 years older, so they've always acted more like friends.
I think that birth order certainly has an effect on the type of person you become. I tend to nuture and protect those I love, whereas 88Mfiance is more carefree. He is fiercely loyal though, which I think comes from being the 'baby' b/c my baby sister (Chickenlittle:)) is the same way.
I'm eldest of 2 (I have a younger sister) and my husband is an only child. Thankfully he's pretty easygoing, so my type A, run-the-show-ness isn't a problem!
My FI is the oldest of two and I'm the youngest of three, but my brothers are 6 and 10 years older than me, so I got a bit of "only child" spoiling.
I'm the youngest of 3, but my brother is 6 years older and my sister is 12 years older, so our sibling dynamic was weird and often nonexistent until I became an adult.
My FH is an only child, so we've compromised on trying for 2 kids one day.
Isn't there a book on birth order?
I agree that birth order (and gender of siblings) makes a big difference in personalities! Mr. PN is the oldest of six (3 full siblings and 2 half sibilings) and I am the youngest of 3 (and the only girl).
I grew up as an only child but an actually the youngest of eight... my father had four sons & two daughters from his first marriage and my mother had one daughter from her first. All of my siblings were out of the house when I arrived.
My fiance is the oldest - he has one younger sister.
I am the second one in family of four girls and my fiance has one younger sister.
i have one older sister, my FI has a younger sister and brother
I am the second oldest of SEVEN! I have an older brother and five younger siblings: three sisters right beneath be and my two younger brothers bring up the caboose.
