I can't really help with your actual issue but I wanted to share that I used to work at a daycare and one little guy had these blankets. I may have gone out and bought a pack myself...and possibly still use it (I am thankful that I'm short). I use the same 2 mostly and alternate using them/washing them :)
I think 4 is enough if you do laundry regularly...if you don't then get a few more - they are useful for lots of things beyond swaddling! I also loved the A&A ones, got some bamboo ones which are crazy soft but not the best for swaddling a new born
I had TONS! I bought them in all the prints and all the thicknesses. She was swaddled until she was about 5 months old. I would say we went through one per night, maybe two if she spit up. I did laundry once a week. My daughter is 3 now and she still uses her Aden + Anais. The thick ones for sleeping in hot weather, and the thin ones for school or traveling blankets. They are HANDS DOWN the best. They breathe and are super cute.
I think, if you're only buying A&A swaddle blankets, it's not a bad idea to get two 4-packs. You'll always use them. Personally, I also like the SwaddleMe blankets, so I'm getting one pack of A&A and 2 SwaddleMes for baby #2.
We got 2 packs of them, and usually 1 pack is plenty but a couple of times we got lazy with laundry and ran out! We use them every single day!
We only have 3 swaddle's. You really don't need to swap them out every night unless spit up on.
Thanks so much for all your replies! They sound essential and worth the hefty pricetag. But which ones are actually thicker? Are they the bamboo ones? Where I live, it gets pretty cold and having some thick ones would really help as well.
Thanks
I think the thickest A&A swaddles are actually the "cozy muslin" blankets? We just used the regular muslin ones with our daughter; if it was cold out, we'd just double swaddle her, and that was plenty warm.
Is this for registry purposes? Or are you going to buy them yourself?
I ask because, if you haven't had a shower yet, you may want to hold off on purchasing them. I got a *ton* from my shower, even though I hadn't registered for any. I had to return some, and I still didn't end up using all the ones I had.
I'm planning on a weeks worth per baby. Since the a+a blankets are on sale at Target right now for $25 for a 4 pack, I picked up one set, and will register for a few more.
I wouldn't recommend swaddling your baby too much, it's good for him/her to have room to move his/her arms, it stimulates their muscle development. So only a few should be fine.
I plan on swaddling, so I appreciate this thread! I am going to stalk for answers.
what makes A+A blankes so great?
@panterapeach: The best thing is their size. They're big, square and made of muslin, so they're much easier to handle than receiving blankets, knit blankets, quilts, etc... They're more like the hospital swaddle blankets than most other swaddles you'll find on the market, only much softer.
I'm curious about this - we're planning to get the swaddle suits (for lack of a better word) because I'm pretty sure I'll never figure out how to use swaddling blankets correctly. Then when baby girl gets a little older and wants more flailing freedom, get the swaddle suits with the arm holes so she stays warm but can still wiggle around.

I've heard great things about Aden + Anais Swaddling blankets and was wondering how many I'd need. They come in a 4-pack, but if I'll use them everyday, all day, I'm thinking 4 might be too few ... or will 8 be too many?
How many swaddling blankets did you end up using? What do you suggest?
