ive heard you are supposed to wash your hair no more than every other day to keep the natural oils in it to keep your hair moisturized. my problem is this, i go to the gym 6 days a week and sweat like a 600 pound sumo wrestler…like my sweat makes drops all over the floor. its quite gross.
if you work out that hard, youre supposed to ignore the “every other day”rule right? and just wash your hair every day? but is that making it less moist? im so confused. any help would be great!

If you work out, there is no reason to skip every other day shampooing. Just try to keep the shampoo focused at the scalp and condition the bottom half of your hair well.

I work out every day (weight lifting & Insanity! for cardio) and I only wash my hair once a week. I keep it clipped up in a bun and it only gets a little damp. Once I’m done I let it air-dry and it really doesn’t have an odor (I ask my sister ALL the time!).

I work out almost every day and I know other people will probably think its pretty gross, but I usually only wash my hair once a week, twice at most.

I have to wash my hair everyday, despite all the warning against it. I just feel gross if I don’t. I don’t work out currently, but I can’t imagine me not washing the sweat out of my hair if I did work out.

I have dreads and only wash mine once a week.
Def have to do a chavvy fringe wash though every day or my fringe gets very greasy!

I workout 6 days a week too. I wash mine at night after my workout. I sweat entirely too much to not wash it afterwards.

I’m with you… shower follows every workout. Especially when I’m training for a race… outdoor runs are brutal! Sometimes I’ll skip it if it’s a weekend and I have no plans (i.e. if I don’t have to go out in public), but if I have to go to work, go out with FI, or go to some other social function, I’m washing my hair.
I wonder, though, if it’s hair type? I have very fine, very thin, very long hair that gets greasy STAT. I’m sure other gals with thicker hair can get away with a workout and no wash afterwards.

@futuremrsbc: have you tried dry shampoo yet? I’ve been using it and haven’t washed my hair since Monday! I usually have to shampoo everyday, too.

I don’t work out and I have to wash my hair everyday. If I don’t I look like I bathed in oil the second afternoon. And my hair is still lush and thick and soft.

@jwdesiree: I think hair type definitely makes a difference. I have thick curly hair, if I do wash it every day, it feels like straw! But I promise, I do shower after every workout!

I wash my hair every other day, but can go up to 4 days without washing it, at that point it starts to get really greasy.
On lighter workout days, I don’t sweat. I just don’t really sweat a lot so I don’t always need to shower. The really high intensity workouts I only sweat on my scalp, I think because my hair is tied back. Those days I wash it.

I workout a lot too and I wash my hair after every workout! If I don’t workout…I don’t wash my hair (usually).

You can always have no-poo days. I often just rinse my hair and then massage my scalp with conditioner instead of shampooing each time.

Kind of as-needed and also based on what I’m doing that day. I prefer to wash it every other day because when I wash it every day it is dryer/more frizzy, but sometimes it needs it every day. Or if I know I’m going to want to look particularly nice on the night of day 2, I will wash that day because by the end of day 2 it usually looks kinda greasy.
