I went to 3 stores, in 2 days' time, tried on about 20-25 dresses before I found the one.
I started looking at dresses right after I got engaged, in April 2008. I went out shopping probably 4-5 times to maybe 10 stores total. I found the dress I loved in late July and ordered it in September.
i got lucky, found it in the first store, third dress. i went to one more store just to make sure that i didn't like any other dresses, but i walked in and out in like two minutes, and went straight back to buy my dress.
I only went twice. It's not what I planned, but just worked out that way. I went to David's with my sister and hated everything. I went to another bridal store that I had randomly heard about and tried on about 10 dresses. I loved (and bought!) the first one I tried on there. It was nothing like I ever imagined I would choose.
I think it happens differently for everyone.
Right now Im at 7 trips (5 stores), over 75 dresses, and nothing!
It's interesting how quick some find their gown, while others search forever!
I found it on my first trip...it was probably the 3rd dress I tried on! I took 2 more trips after that to see what else was out there. I kept coming back to the one I found during my first trip. Even though I had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted, it really surprised me that I found it so quickly...but, I bought it and never looked back : )
I have been to 3 stores and I have tried on about 20 dresses in total. Still no "the one" for me. I may have found "the one" online, but since I can't go to a store to try it on, i'll probably head to 3-4 more bridal stores looking for a dress with a similar look in my size to try on to see if I look good in the style I fell on love with OR can find something in my price range somewhere else.
I found my dress online before I even went to any shops, so me going to shops was trying to find one that had the dress. I ended up going to three because the first two didn't have the dress, but the first one recommended a shop that did have the dress so I went there and tried it on and then went back to the first shop to order it.
I went on three trips before I found my dress. The first one I didn't see any that I liked. The seond there was one that I really liked and I went back a third time to see it and found my dress!
6 stores, but only tried on around 20 dresses. I'm very VERY picky and knew if I tried on too many it would just get harder in the end; but ended up getting something I didn't even think would work.
I've gone 7 times. Nothing yet. I don't know when I'll find the dress. Actually I think I did, but no one has it for me to try on. Boo.
Good luck!
I got lucky and found my dress at the first store! I deliberated for a few days, then realized I couldn't stop thinking about that dress and went back and bought it. Feeling especially lucky, as my mother was only in town for a few days and I thought she'd miss out on some of the dress shopping fun.
Good luck finding yours, ladies! Let yourself love your dress even if it wasn't your first idea.
I'm pretty sure I will be super picky and go at least 5 times...I'm glad that I won't be the crazy bride trying on too many.
Good luck to all of you who haven't found the one yet!
First trip, second store, maybe 15th dress. I tried on about 25 dresses total.
I didn't even plan on buying because I had no clue what I liked. I just wanted to narrow down the choices of styles, material, colors, etc.
1st trip...1st dress..but i tried on maybe 5 more after, then decided that i looved the first one..and to this day, i am still drooling over it=) funny thing is, my mom picked it out! and i didnt think it looked all that great on the hanger, but once i tried it, i definitely knew...good luck with the search, i'm sure you'll find "the one"
I've been to about 7-8 stores and tried on over 100 dresses. I've found one that I think is the one, but I'm going to a trunk show and a rush for the dress sale this weekend. If I strike out there, I'm buying the one I found.
I went to one bridal shop, found out that I wanted a Kenneth Pool for sure, and then went to Saks and only tried on Kenneth Pool dresses. I bought it on my second trip and after trying on 1 Melissa Sweet and 6 Kenneth Pools. I don't regret it for a second.
1 day - 2 stores - 11th dress was the one!
Went to 2 other stores after finding the one and tried on 4 more but nothing compared!
Don't worry it will happen!
I went to about 7 different stores and tried on close to 100 dresses. I know, it sounds kinda crazy and believe me, I was getting STRESSED! The dress I ended up with is nothing like what I thought I wanted and had been trying on, but it's the one! Everyone has their own timeline -- don't worry if it's taking a little longer.
I also don't think everyone has that gushing crying moment. I sure didn't. I knew when I found the dress that I just wanted to stare at myself in and not want to take off.
I also went wedding dress shopping alone and purchased my dress without anyone there. I didn't want anyone elses opinion and fortunately my mom loved it (she should since she paid for it!) But, she left the decision up to me and everything turned out really well.
I had the bridal consultant at Sak's take a picture of me with my blackberry in the dress so that if I ever start second guesing my dress decision or wanting to go online and browse, I look at myself in it and fall in love with the dress all over again.
I am now re-reading this and seeing how narcissistic this sounds, but I think you need to be when it comes to your wedding dress.
First store, third dress I tried on.
I did a ton of searching on-line before I went dress shopping, though, and I knew which dress I wanted before ever trying it on. I went to a boutique that carried the dress I wanted to try on, I tried it on third, and that's the dress I bought. :-)
@Mrs.Louboutin: I did the exact same thing! No crying, no gushing... I was just staring. Which is funny because I'm a total crier, but at that moment I just wanted to stare. Yep, I totally get it. :-)
I went to 3 different bridal stores and 2 of those I went back to twice before I ended up ordering my dress. I probably tried on about 20-30 dresses
I found it on my first trip! But, I did go to two other stores before making an official decision.

My mom & I went to the local David's Bridal Saturday (my first trip), and I tried on probably about 10 dresses. I didn't find "the one", but I really liked some.
Annnyways, my question to you ladies, how many shopping trips did it take to find "the one" dress?
I know some people find it right away, while others search for months.
