I was wondering how many venues people looked at in person before deciding on ‘the one’?
I have heard of people who’ve looked at several dozens but since we are planning a wedding 1.5+ hours away and spending just about every weekend at my Future In-Laws (who have been awesome enough to look at venues with us), I think my Fiance and I are starting to experience a burnout! We have a couple of places we like a lot, but none that we absolutely love. However, I am tempted to just pick a place instead of pushing further to find the perfect one, if there is such a thing!
We are more than a year away so we do have time to look some more. I don’t want to settle because I know I might regret it, but from my research we’ve already looked at my top contenders so I’m not sure what else is out there….
What would/did you do? Any advice?

One. I fell in love with it just looking at photos online and when I saw it in person there wasn’t a doubt. After hearing the ridiculously reasonable cost I ran up to book my date. My venue is also two hours away.
I had an idea of things I could and couldn’t live without and the overall feeling/theme I wanted from my venue. Once you have a few criteria in mind you can elminate places right off the bat.

We’ve seen two so far… We fell in love with the first place we saw, but the price is making me want to see more. We started a spreadsheet that weeded out a ton of contendors. Now we are down to the top 5.

I was at the SAME point as you. We almost did vegas and I ended up in tears several times after visiting venues and getting quotes. I was ready to quit too…then we found it! THE perfect one. We walked in and we both looked at eachother and “knew”. We almost settled and I am glad we didn’t but it would have ok if we had. Now I am going crazy with all the details!

In person, we saw 6. Online? It felt like thousands, lol.

Ooh, I hear you about the burnout! Looking was stressful. I think we/I (I looked at a couple by myself, a few with Fiance, and 1-2 with my mom or my MOH) went to 7-8 altogether.

@AmeliaBedelia: Omg I forgot about my extensive online searches. *shudder*

I’m not sure, but I know it wasn’t more than 5. I was SUPER picky about it and we had a specific date already in mind, so that narrowed it down a LOT.

I voted for 1-5. However, in fairness, I should note that I had been engaged once many years before and had done an enormous amount of research — and visited a ton of venues — back then. When I finally met Darling Husband and was ready to say “I do,” I only felt the need to visit a couple of venues in person.

Two. We loved both of them but one was a bit closer and had a gorgeous outdoor ceremony spot.

I think we looked at 8 or 9. They were all about 40 minutes to 1.5 hours away. That’s was a awful time since we were house hunting the same time. Saturday, venue. Sunday, 3-4 open houses. There goes the weekend. It was a GREAT relief to finally book a venue and stop driving all over the state to see anymore. I gotta admit though, I still searched online a little after and almost had venue regret, but in the end, I was too sick of looking to bother to follow up and check out anymore.

None in person! I’m a destination bride, so I relied on pictures and my wedding planner. Hopefully there are no huge surprises when I get there :).

We looked at so.many.venues. First online, and then through their brochures, and then in person, and then in person a second time. There was one that we drove to and didn’t like the look, so drove away again! The one’s that we liked we were there for ages, looking in the bedrooms, drinking tea etc,but a few we literally turned up had a quick look round and then were like “thanks, bye!” as we knew they weren’t for us.
None of the venues were near us (we lived in a city and wanted a green wedding) so we would book 5 appointments for one day, and they drive round like crazy people and see them all. I was so glad when we finally booked something.
@AmeliaBedelia: I hear you! SO would show me a website and I would be convinced that we’d already looked at it a vetoed. They all blurred into one.

We looked at one. I did a TON of research before hand, and narrowed it down to 3, but we only visited one. The price was a little high, but we were already set for the off season, so changing our date from the Sat night to the Sunday evening on a holiday weekend worked best for us. We got the price into our range, and the perfect venue.

I have not seen any in person as I am another destination bride and am going completely off pictures and my wedding planner.
