@CestTresJolie14:  My fiance and I physically visited 4 venues HOWEVER we contacted a total of 16! Totally crazy on our part. I would suggest you check out at least 3 places before you make a final decision, at the very least so that you can see what different places offer so that when you do decide on a place, you know exactly what you want.

We looked at about 5 (narrowed down from all we could find online), and there were two that we really liked, a more traditional ballroom at the top of a skyscraper with big tall windows, and an art deco theater. I didn’t feel head over heels in love with either, though I liked both, but my fiance was totally in love with the theater because it makes him feel like we’re throwing a big party at which we happen to be getting married. The estimates of all the basics also came out about 6k less than other venues we liked. Which was definitely a deciding factor in its favor.

We looked at TONS. We had planned for a christmas wedding [on christmas], and decided that none of the venues we seen could do want we wanted. [We wanted to bring our own alcohol for open bar, & preferred to do our own catering]. We also wanted it big enough for our ceremony & reception.

We went with a bed & breakfast. We fell in LOVE with this place. Best part is we rented out the entire thing [all 7 sleeping quarters] and the lodge itself – for 3 nights, for the cost of what the venues were to begin with! Win.

We ended up booking the first place we saw. After that, especially considering the cost, nothing else even came close. Physically we looked at 5 places, but online and through email about 15-20. I think it’s like everything else, when it’s “the one” you know.

@CestTresJolie14:  I can also tell you that once you decide and it’s booked, it’s like a HUGE  weight lifted off your shoulders!!!

We really only looked at 1 but we had picked out maybe 3-4 to look into. We never got to the rest though due to a combination of things such as wanting the reception to be indoors to avoid weather stress, the cost (ours has no rental fee and provides all the tables/plates/etc), and overall feel. I didn’t even look at the rest of the venues and feel 100% confident in that decision. If you’re worried about being over excited though try looking at another place and/or getting some quotes so you can compare packages. We had gotten two quotes from other venues before we started officially looking so it really helped us make the decision without wondering if it was a good price or not.

@CestTresJolie14:  Oh my gosh, it sounds like you have more than enough information to make your decision!  Just book it!  RiverBride13 is 100% correct, once you book the venue, a HUGE weight will be lifted off of your shoulders!  Everything else will be much easier to decide on once you have the venue & date locked in.  Do it! haha

i had pretty much known all along that i wanted my reception in my parents’ front yard, but we still looked into other places, just to see what was out there.

one place that we considered, i had been to many times for other events, so i didn’t make a special trip to check it out.

there was one other place i had never been to before that we went to see. we seriously considered going with that place, but in the end we stuck with the original plan to have it at my parents’ house.

so have you booked it yet?! I say go for it. If you get that ‘yay, we’re gonna get married here!’ feeling, do it.

I had that feeling at our venue a year before we got engaged! haha. It’s a bar/restaurant in the back of a bookshop and we went there for dinner once, and I knew straight away it would be the perfect venue for our wedding. I had it filed away in the back of my mind so yeah, we only looked at one venue! I agree with your friend about communication, its the one downside to our venue, the manage is SO BAD with email. but he’s great to talk to in person, so whenever we need to talk to him we just go to the bar. good excuse to go out!
