I plan on going home (where the wedding is) for a week and am going to try to visit all the sites I want to check out but I’m not sure how many is a reasonable number to visit in one day? Any have advice on this? I was thinking maybe 3 in a day (morning, lunchish, afternoon). Is this too many? I don’t want to be so tired at the end of the day that I hate the last venue just because I’m tired.

Hmmm…maybe 2 a day. I guess it really depends on how many you have to visit during your entire trip. You can either knock them all out at the beginning of your trip, or spread them out. I found that when I traveled home to meet with bakeries and florists; I was drained meeting with 3 or more…and definitely after the first 2 days…lol…I made a decision quick and cancelled the others.

I’d say no more than 3. Fiance did 3 in one day and we were exhausted. Also, the places tend to get muddled in your mind the more you see and the more tired you get. Take a camera and don’t overdo it!

2 or 3 is fine, but no more than that. I found that at some venues I was finished after less than an hour.

I think 3 is fine, but I wouldn’t try to do any more than that!

We did five in one day the day we picked our venue. The one we picked was venue #3. However, we looked at ceremony sites and reception sites, which needed to go hand in hand and we wanted to pick both that day while we were in town, and the available dates were in “real time”. I think that plays a factor. We had two churches, a banquet hall and a golf course banquet room and one venue that could accommodate both parts, so it felt natural to do 5. They were all relatively close together, and we didn’t stay that long at any one place, so it only took us about 6 hours with a lunch break.

I did four in one day and I thought it was fine. I would leave more time after the ones that you are considering more seriously. When I had more questions, our visits wer much longer. In general, my venue visits an average of 1 1/2 hours but I remember at least one was pushing 2 1/2 and one was less than an hour (we got there and it was clear it would not be big enough).

I agree with katiebug, we had a weekend to find our venue. I did one on Friday before my Fiance arrived (because it was the only apt I could get) and we did 4 on Saturday. It was fine but we had a good 1 1/2 to 2 hrs between appointments. It gave us time to ask questions and not feel rushed and then to talk about each venue right after we saw it (and to grab lunch, coffee, snacks in between). We also brought along our digital camera and a notebook to remind us about answers to questions and what each one looked like. It was a long day but we weren’t overwhelemed. Good luck and have fun!

We really crammed them in, we did 4-6 in one day! the thing we soon picked up on, is to not waste time if you do not like the place immediately. If you don’t envision having your wedding reception there, move on! So even though we visited many places, there were some where we didn’t even sit down.

@verosara: good point! we wasted so much time walking through one venue that i KNEW right away was not going to work. I should’ve said something but was too embarrassed and kept just nodding my head while the woman explained the details.

I think if you want to to get it over with, and the venues are close to each other, you can schedule up to 5 a day.
I am a super efficient person and I plan my venues by geographic location, so in 1 weekend, i hit all 5 venues in that city. Each place takes 1 hour to discuss, visit, so you should allow 1 1/2 hours (including driving) for your appointments.
9am, 10:30, 12 break/lunch, 1pm, 2:30, 4pm
See how many places you can talk to and rule out in one days?!? =) but yea, it only took me basically 2 to 3 weekends to find a venue. Good luck!
