I can’t really speak for the site engineers but I’d assume that it doesn’t ONLY depend on votes. I’d assume that it also depends on how hard the change would be to execute and how much it costs to do so.

Sloth is correct – it also depends heavily on whether or not it’s the direction that those who run WB want the site to move in or not (which is why the baby blog idea got turned down several months back).

It also depends on what else the site developers have going on, and how much free/flexible time they have. 🙂

I am not sure how the current Weddingbee engineers use the Ideas forum…  in the past though, we used the Ideas forum as a source of ideas for new features.

Some feature requests that were popular and easy to do, we would implement right away.  Other ideas might not happen even if they were popular: for example, some users have requested that members be able to delete their threads at any time (as opposed to say, within ___ minutes of being posted).   I posted as to why we wouldn’t allow this:

We’ve been on other boards that allow thread deletion, and it can greatly reduce participation on the boards… people figure there’s no point in commenting on posts (especially if they’re controversial in any way) if there’s a good chance the entire thread will just be deleted.

That said, we may allow thread deletion even on boards for the first ___ minutes or so after it’s posted! That feels like a good compromise, I hope! 🙂

So yah, votes are one input in what can be a complex decision!  If you really want something to happen, please also comment as to your reasoning.   A single well-reasoned comment can have much more of an impact than 20 point-and-click votes!

@dynamic_duo: It’s not fair to the community when people create advice threads, others leave many thoughtful comments, and then the OP deletes the entire thread.  We allowed that a few times, and a number of hive members got really upset.

As a result, we ask that if you’d like to ask for advice of a private nature, you create a secondary account to do so. That way, you get your advice, the advice from the hive is captured for posterity, and everyone wins!
