How many would you order?

@marinesfiance:  For normal sized cupcakes I was told to plan on 2-3 cupcakes per person (2 is the typical I guess) although we ended up going with a cake. For smaller cupcakes would you estimate that 2 small cupcakes equal one big cupcake? Or are they even smaller than that?

Considering you are looking at needing to make 600+ small cupcakes I would order them and save yourself the stress. That is a lot of work!

@marinesfiance:  For 150 people I would probably do about 375-400.

@marinesfiance:  Those look delicious! In reading online I found that three mini cupcakes are suggested which would be 1.5 large cupcakes. That sounds better! However, that is still 450 mini-cupcakes that you would have to make if you didn’t go with a professional. If you do end up having other dessert options you could lower it to 2 mini cupcakes per person.

For $225.00 (3 minis per person) I would say go with having them make the cupcakes. A wedding cake will cost a lot more and you want cupcakes!

@marinesfiance:  I make cupcakes for weddings, regular and minis. I usually tell people to order 1 regular per person (some people will eat 2, some wont have any) or 4 mini’s per person. If you will have lots of other treats, order about 80% of that number, and if you’ll have a couple other options order about 90%. Some people go crazy in mini cupcakes because they seem so guilt-free and unassuming! lol $0.50/each is a STEAL!

ETA – making and transporting minis is a HUGE pain, they’re top heavy so if you hit a bump they flip upside down. I once had some who was setting up tables around my accidentally knock a box and lost an entire 2 dozen 🙁 for that price, it’s totally worth it to order them, especially if they were really tasty!

I think 2 per person, and then maybe have something else, like the pie pops. And I would NOT make them myself. Sure you might save a little money, but making mini cupcakes is actually harder/more tedious than making regular sized ones.

Well, I’m no pro baker, but it’s harder for me anyway! The little @#$%’s flip over too easily!

@marinesfiance:  Haha yes, it’s a sad thing when you open a box and the first thing you see is the bottom of a cupcake liner :*(. They probably freeze, so if you’re not if the “get these out of my house before I eat them all” mindset, order lots! You can put them out at your gift opening or whatever other gatherings you have in the next month or two. mine keep for a good 2 months in the freezer (NOT a frost free freezer though)
