@Mint2Bee:  We haven’t had children yet, but we plan on waiting at least 5 years, which would put me at 8 years in my current career field (nonprofit administration).

If everything goes the way we plan, it’ll be five years.

I don’t have any kids but I have been in my field for 10 years already so if we were to have one we would be in the 8+ years option in your poll.

I’m a lawyer, so I was 26 before I could even finish school and start my career.  And I knew that the years just before the partnership decision (8-10 years after starting) were going to be very demanding, so I didn’t want to be pregnant or have a new baby then.  So my choices were to have my kids after I’d worked a couple of years, or wait until I was at least 36 before getting pregnant.  And I really didn’t want to take the chance of waiting so long that I might not be able to have children at all.  So the children came 2 and 3 years after I started my career.

I also don’t have children but I’ve already been in my career for 7 years. So I’m sure if and when we do start trying I’ll be at 8+ years.

I’ve had four years, with the same employer, and am pregnant now. I plan to come back for a year after a birth, and then I’ll take 2 years off.

@Mint2Bee:  I graduated at almost 25 and having my first at 32, 2 months short of 8 years post graduation.  However, if I’d mt the right man earlier I’d have had my first three or four years ago

I’m 32 and have been working in this field for 8 years, with almost 10 years total work experience.  Hopefully we’ll get our crap together in the next couple years and start a family.

I’ve already been in my career 7 years (I’m 30). By our planning, it’ll be at least another 2-3 years before babies.

I passed the bar in 2009, but I started my full-time job as an ASA in 2010, so I have been here 3 1/2 years. I will have been here a full four when the baby comes in April though 🙂

I didn’t want to wait a long time to have a baby, and we are planning on a second one shortly after the first baby arrives.  My boss is very family-oriented and family friendly, so now is the best time for me to be taking maternity leave and not jeopardizing my career.
