I was reading a post on here about marriage licenses and as I was writing a response I got curious about what brides and grooms have to pay where they live. Europe, US, Canada, etc. Is it the same price for all states? Counties? Territories?
I live in Milwaukee,WI,USA and I have to pay $100.00.......where do u live and what do/did you pay for a marriage license??
I hope its resonable for u all. :)
Los Angeles, CA ... $90 bucks! And we have to pay an additional $15 for the actual license...lame.
I live in Michigan and the fee is $20 in my county. To get a certified copy for changing my name it will be an additional $15. I can't believe how expensive it is for the rest of you bees!
Here in Vancouver it's $100. I have to pay $65 in Hawaii though.
I hope I don't have to get both...I'm kinda hoping the Canadian government just recognizes the Hawaiian one...
@FloretteLiz: Woo go Michigan! Finally they did one thing right! Lol. :)
@Earlybride: Yeah I was surprised to see you ladies quoting upwards of $100. I think my old county was $40 for my mom when she remarried.
@Qitty: $7 for a certified copy is not too shabby!
ETA: Nope I guess my old county is $20 too. It's $30 in both counties I looked at if you are from out of state. Lol you ladies should relocate here for your weddings!
I was just researching this the other day, because I realized we hadn't put it in our wedding budget. Ours is apparently a whopping $157! I'm envious of all you girls who only have to pay $20.
I didn't know but this thread made me want to check. I live in WI too, a smaller city though, and it's $90.
I live in coastal California, and it's $95 for the license, $14 for each certified copy of the certificate.
@Shosha1: Wowsa! That's a lot of money... For that price a certified copy better be included!
@Shosha1: Yeah I didnt even think about it. But now it is in our budget. Yours is the highest so far. Sorry.:)
We only paid $11 because in TX they have this program where if you sit through an 8 hour marriage class for free they knock $65 off your marriage lisence fee.
$25 for the county and I believe $5 for the certified copy. I'm surprised at some of these numbers...
In Los Angeles County we paid $90 for a public license and it would have been $85 for a private licence. $14 for every certified copy we order.
Okay I must have not reserched enough because I didnt know that u are supposed to get a certified copy of it. Too tired to look it up now. Doubt that its alot.
We will be getting ours in Michigan and its $33 for non residents
In Texas, it's $71, but you get a discount if you go through a marriage prep course. We paid $725 freakin dollars for marriage prep at my church in California, only to find out that the discount only applies if you take the 'Together in Texas' class. (sorry, slight vent there)
$56, I think. I should probably go look that up now. lol Our wedding is in Arkansas, by the way.
hm... I never even factored it in to my budget... but I guess whats an extra $100 bucks at this point...
$75 in Maryland, though some counties can be cheaper. Also no blood test expenses.
It is $50 in Columbus, Ohio and $2.00 per certified abstract, which basically is the legal proof you are married. You need something certified by the court to say that the marriage took place to go to Social Security to change your name. I work in marriage licensing here and we usually tell people they will need anywhere from 2-5 certified copies. That's because insurance, passport, banks, credit card companies and if you have a license for your job all need them.
In Ohio, the price is different for each county, as it is up to the Judge how much is charged.
I just checked our town's website and it's $40. I'm surprised it's not more, considering Massachusetts likes to charge double for everything else...
@Shosha1: If you go to Almonte, Smith Falls, or Kemptville, it's only 100$! Rockland and Arnprior is 125$. That's what I'm doing instead of getting it in-city. 157+tax is TOO MUCH!
Almonte you might have to wait a week though, so beware.
In my county it is $40. But in MD you have to get the license in the county you are getting married in. It is only a couple of dollars for the copies thereafter. I think it is 5 for the first copy and 2 for every copy thereafter. I could be wrong though.
Wow. I am shocked at these prices. I'm in Mass and paid $20. Certified copies are $10 each.
I think ours is $30.. I'll find out tomorrow when we (hopefully) go get it.
In Boone County in Missouri, it was $51 for the license and $9 for a certified copy.
Harrisburg, PA we paid $50, it is $6 for each certified copy. In PA you do not have to get your license in the county you are getting married in either =)
