I have to use the venue's exclusive caterer which doesn't leave much room for negotiation. My mom and sister are doing the cake which makes it mostly free to me. Yay!
I am thrilled to have Hy-Vee cater for us . We are able to do our wedding for 100 people for under 1300.00 and that is including our cake, and they are doing the set up and clean up too. If the food is half is half as good as the tasting we had, it will be great. I checked them out after another Bee, tksjewelry, gave them a great review, and I am really glad I am going with them. They have been wonderful to work with so far.
We are having approx 40 people, and food, cake and beverages all should come in around $550. We are having a local restaurant cater at about $9/head for BBQ plates, I'm making the cheesecakes for our wedding cake and decorating them with fresh fruit, which comes in at about $40, a friend is making cupcakes for me, I'm just buying the ingredients, so another $20-$30, fresh fruit skewers and dipping sauces will probably be another $70 (late autumn = expensive fresh fruit!), and we are doing lemonade and sweet tea as beverages, no alcohol (venue rules), so I definitely fall in the under $3000 category!
We have an $8500 minimum for food/beverage which isn't bad considering other venues in our area (our guests will have 3 course sit down, cocktail hour, and open bar). Our cake is $700 topsy turvy cake from a woman who bakes as a hobby and does business out of her home. Our cake is about $4.60 a slice compared to $7.00 a slice at the big bakeries here.
$63 a head for us with lots of passed apps and several stations (including a filet, seafood, cheese, pasta and lots and lots of sides for them all as well as a dessert buffet).
We only had a small cake for the cutting, but didnt serve it.
this is just a suggestion: I think this poll would be even better if it was a per-person. If you have $100/pp budget but only inviting 50 people, it's a lot different than inviting 200 people! :)
Our catering is expensive because it includes rentals for the tables, linens, chairs, china, glassware, etc. The venue we are using it like an empty box, so we have to cater everything in.
We are having...(maybe not all RSVPs are in yet) about 112 people. We paid the venue 1788 for dinner for everyone and the cake is 517. so under 3000 for sure!
Our food is $750 and our cupcakes are $250 for our 75 people... So it comes to about $13 per person... We are doing a Chipotle style taco bar...
Our dinner comes to about $70 pp for a buffet dinner with three types of meats, three kinds of salad, a potato dish, grilled veggies, dessert, and wine.
Our cupcakes (not doing regular cake) are being made by one of my bridesmaids who does baking as a hobby and she's just charging us for the supplies, so about $150 for 100 cupcakes.
oops, I take my vote back. I voted 3-6k but I was including alcohol. Without alcohol we expect to be right under 3k.
Our catering is all included with the venue (we can't pick our own caterer.) The cost for cocktail hour, hors d'ouevres, full meal with appetizer, plus full open bar is $85/person. With tax and gratuity it'll be $106. We're having around 90 people so that would be $9540 :-S. Cake is awesome though, only $3.25/slice.
I picked between $3,000 & 6,000 because we are having cakes, food, tea & water all by the same catering company, BUT that includes our DJ (who I was actually going to book before I realized they had a package deal together - winning!). SO for my DJ, cake (up to 5 tiers) and a barbecue dinner, tea, water, and nuts/mints & chocolate fountain --> $4300.
Considering I was already going with the DJ, I considered it a steal!
jesus, our food is costing £50 per head, and we are having 25 people, then the wine is £15 per bottle. red and white wine on each table and of course the champagne for speeches. so approx £1,500 maybe? i am making my own cake but obviously have bouthgt the things i need for that which will be in the region of £50
We're not having alcohol at the reception, but I'm only talking to caterers who come in at $2,000. Catering is pretty low on our priority list, so I'm going as low as possible on that one.
My reception venue comes with food and alcohol, but my cakes are going to run me just under $800 for my wedding and groom's cake. This is a four tier buttercream wedding cake and a two tier tiger striped groom's cake. This should feed between 150 - 200.
Our venue includes the food and everything else... so it's hard to say how much is just for food. We are getting some "extras" though for the reception and a second entree, so that raised the price a bit. Still deciding if we have to do the whole cheese platter and varied meats. Our cake is included as well but it won't be anything extravagent since it's only for 40 people.
The only thing we really wanted to splurge on was the food... we want our guests to have a nice dinner. :) Well fed people are happy people.

I was just wondering how much people are spending on average here on their food including cake (not including beverages)?
