We are having a hard time deciding on how much we should plan on budgeting for our honeymoon. What are ya'll spending or spent?
Edit: And I guess I should add that if you want to post where your going and for how much that would be helpful too :)
We're not 100% sure yet, since we have had to delay it to next year. We originally budgeted $8k for a trip to Europe. Now it will be something less, but not sure exactly.
We are going to Playa del Carmen right after the wedding for a week, and airfare and the hotel only cost $1300 total. I'd like to take a trip to Europe some time, but right now it's just too expensive and we didn't want to put off a honeymoon for later.
We are doing a weddingmoom- Breezes Bahamas all inclusive for 7 nights + air $2200!
My parents have been there before and said while the hotel rooms are not 5* you dont spend much time inside and the grounds were amazing! and out of all the tropical places they have been Bahamas has been their fav
We're going to St. Lucia, staying at the Sandal's there. Its just under $4,000. Its kinda expensive but we wanted something special and RELAXING. So I can't wait to just do nothing! I'm sure the cost will be worth it :)
$3800 for 8 days/7 nights at the Excellence in Punta Cana in mid June (peak season)
If you are leaving from St Louis, most of the time you'll get stuckw ith connecting flights. BUT there ARE non-stop flights from St Louis to the Riviera Maya and Jamaica but you need to work with a travel agent for them.
I highly recommend this. It took us SOOO long to get to the DR and back it wiped us out. We went to Cancun in April, nonstop flight, and were there in less than 3 hours. It was glorious and we enjoyed the trip more without the hassle of travel. Just FYI =]
Ours ended up being more expensive due to the fact that we had to cancel one honeymoon and book another (lost on the cost of trip insurance & change in flight fees, etc)...so now after all is said and done, we'll probably spend around $5100. Our current honeymoon (hopefully no changes) is at the Sandals Royal Bahamian.
We originally budgets 10k for a Europe trip but then decided we wanted a more relaxing beach vacation. We came back down to 8k and are looking between Antigua, St Lucia and Turks and Caicos. High end all inclusives run 800 - 1000 a night
We are going to Napa and San Francisco. Our airfare was $900 and our hotel in San Fran for 2 nights will be about $500. With car rental, food and excursions I am thinking this honeymoon will end up costing us $3,000 to $5,000.
We are saving some money because we are staying in FI"s parent's condo timeshare in Napa which will cost us nothing because it's a gift from them.
We're spending $5,000 on 10 nights in Hawaii (Honolulu and Maui). I plan on a few thousand more on meals and stuff while we're there.
I believe our honeymoon is being booked at this very moment by FI. *fingers crossed* We're going to South Africa and Mozambique. For sure the biggest trip we'll be taking for the next 5 years, and I'm almost embarassed to say how much we're spending on it...about $20k. But it will be an absolutely amazing experience and I could not be more excited!
Our goal is $3,000 including meals and excursions. not sure where to yet!
Be prepared for some sticker shock! Since you are getting married during high wedding season, you will also be traveling during high travel season, so everything is going to be more expensive. We are going to Paris for about $5,000, but thats in July. However, I have been to Paris is February and my trip, for the same amount of time, was half that price. Ugh.
@hilsy85- That sounds AMAZING! How long are you gone for? What are you planning while you're there! My best friend's parents did a year long (it may have been longer, I can't remember) HM traveling all over Africa and ended up bringing home a monkey with them, LOL! Ahhh the 60s.....
We've spent about $6000 for our 10 day trip to our private island in Belize. That includes just under $1000 for the Airmiles taxes, fees and insurance. We'll likely spend another $1000 once we're down there on miscellaneous day trips, etc. I'm a-okay with that!
hilsy85- I am jealous of your honeymoon! My parents live in Mozambique and really want us to visit them, but I don't think we will be able to afford it in the next few years that they live there!
We're planning on spending about 3K and we're going to NYC. Our flights will be covered with airmiles, so most of our money will go to hotel (1200-1500), food, and of course shopping :)
@bakerella & @jaylii: Thanks! I am insanely excited about it! We're going for about 11 days, although travel will likely add on an additional 2 days. I was SHOCKED that FI could get off that much time for work, but his bosses were like, "Go! It's your honeymoon!"
@bakeralla: ummm you're getting a private island?! Talk about baller :) That's amazing...I would totally just walk around the whole time nakkie just b/c I could! Although I guess there will be cooks and other workers there as well...
We're going to Kruger National Park for a safari for three nights, and then going to Victoria Falls for two nights, and then Mozambique for like 6 nights...I would LOVE to bring home a monkey, lol! But I don't know how FI would feel about that (or the airlines for that matter...). We're hoping to see tons of animals on the safari, and then at Victoria Falls there's this pool called Devil's Pool that abutts the edge of the falls so it looks like you could swim right over the edge. We really want to try that!
@jaylii: Omg, that's an amazing place to live! I would LOVE to hear any tips or suggestions you have for being there/place to go. We're staying on Benguerra Island at Azura Lodge (not sure if you've heard of it, but if you have any insider info, I'd love to hear it!).
@hilsy85: I will e-mail my parents to ask them if they have any travel tips or ides of must see places. I will PM you when I hear from them!
@twinkletoes - How are you doing Paris for 5000.00? Everything I looked at was crazy expensive!! Also sticker shock is RIGHT. geez! I should have made the polls like 10,000+!!!
Actually June is fairly cheap if you're going to the Caribbean (heat/hurricanes make it less deisrable). Yes, it is peak for Europe.
We're going to Europe for two weeks: one week driving around Portugal and one week in Paris, probably with a day trip or two into the French countryside.
The Guy's parents have graciously covered the cost of our accommodations in Paris. We will cover the rest ourselves, and I anticipate it will cost about $5k-$6k, including our flights.
We are spending almost $6000. Our rental costs $3000, because it is a private villa on a private beach on a tiny island. The only way to access it is by boat, so the villa comes with its own boat and boat captain. The captain is also a certified dive instructor and a fisherman, and is at our beck and call.
Flights were almost another $2000 (turns out its hard to get to tiny remote islands), but we're at a private villa, so we're doing the cooking.
We went to Adult only all inclusive resort (Secrets Silversands) in Cancun (Rivera Maya) in April 2010 for 7 days. For both of us, it cost us $2800 for resort & flights from Seattle. We spent about $800 in excursions. I had a wonderful time. I have a thread about it, if you want to look.
@jaylii9 -- may I ask where you're flying from? Flights to SF for $900 sound extremely high...
FH and I got to save a lot while planning our honeymoon. We're going to Moorea for 3 nights and Bora Bora for 5 nights. We're flying first class on miles - YAY - 3 of our nights in Bora Bora are on Amex points - YAY. If we weren't able to use points the total would cost us about $12k - - We're still paying about $7k.
EDIT -- @hilsy85 - - I am beyond jealous of you. I wanted to do something along those lines but FH was like "we are not traveling for 24hrs each way" ugh I wanted to kick him in his junk, LOL
@chocolatemalt - where are you staying in Playa del Carmen? That's a great price! We're getting married/having our honeymoon there and our travel costs are $3,200 for 8 nights.
@jackie-o: hah yeah it's not going to be fun at alllll...I'm hoping to be able to get some sort of sleeping pills or muscle relaxer that will help me sleep for like 10 hours so I'm not just staring at the back of the seat in front of me!
jackie-o: The $900 airfare is for both of us, roundtrip. I realize that may have not been clear! We are flying from Cleveland, Ohio to San Francisco. Tickets were about $450 each. We tracked the prices for 6 months and that's lowest we got. We were able to throw some frquent flier miles (one positive to FI having to travel for work!) so the tickets were cheaper that way.
Eeek. We're working out honeymoon budget right now. We want to go to Hawaii but it's turning out to be very expen$ive!
We are going to Bora Bora and Moorea for one week (4/3 nights). We are spending $7800 on airfare, hotel and inter island travel. Our hotel also includes breakfast. 3 nights in Moorea will be spent in a garden bungalow, 4 nights in bora bora will be in a deluxe over water bungalow. Seriously, just thinking about the honeymoon gets me through the stressful wedding planning moments.
We're spending about $5K (including spending money) for 8 days in Anguilla.
The FI and I haven't decided where we are going yet. Ever since I watched couples' retreat I've wanted to go to Bora Bora. The FI wants to go to Disney World which I have never been too, but he has shown me some of the things he had planned and I have no objections. We were also think of going to Cancun as I have never been to Mexico.
We still have a while to decided but we have made our budget about 5000-7000k.
So many honeymoon options, and so little time!
FI gave us a $10,000 budget and we chose Bali as our destination. We're staying for a month! FI owns his own business, and I started a new job where thankfully they letting me go. Our flights were $1500/person from Seattle. We're staying at a fabulous budget-busting private villa resort the first four nights, and then we're going to wing it after that.
I'm surprised to read that European trips are under 10K. I wanted to go to Italy, but I didn't think we could afford it.
There are as many prices as there are destinations!
We're doing Hawaii, in July, from Ohio which means we are spending a fortune on airfare. My parents gifted us an upgrade to first class (an extra $2500) to bring our total for 10 nights, flight from Maui to Big Island, car rental, hotels to just under $10K.
If you can stand to wait, there are great deals last minute. I just saw a Royal Caribbean deal for a Mediterranean 8 night cruise starting at $850/person!! and if you eat breakfast and dinner on the ship, you won't have to spend much more than that. Just gonna make up the cost in airfare. I've been hearing about a lot of people waiting to get last minute deals. I'm a planner, I couldn't do it :)
we're going on an 8 day cruise to southern carribean followed by a 3 day cruise to private bahama islands back to back. We'll be spending around 3000 for both combined, and we have a honeymoon registry to pay for some luxuries.
We're trying to keep it under 10K for 5 weeks in Europe. EVerything is so expensive this year even though we're going off peak so we might have to spend more.
June42011 - we were able to keep the price around $5000 by getting a great deal on airfare and lodging. We bought our plane tix super early for $2200. We opted to rent an apartment instead of staying at a hotel because its cheaper, and we can save money by cooking all of our meals except for lunch. The apartment was $948 for 7 nights. Then, the rest is spent on meals and museums, etc. In my experience, I usually save hundreds of dollars by cooking all of our meals except for lunch, which is cheap. And luckly paris has amazing markets where we can buy our groceries.
We won it!!! :) so we only have to pay to get out car there and a hotel for the first night...so 200.00 :)
We did a super easy/kind of cheap honeymoon. We got married in Upstate, NY, and were two hours from Vermont, so we just got a B&B there for a week. It was awesome. We honestly didn't do anything but eat and sleep the whole time because we were EXHAUSTED. Like, seriously, never was I so exhausted in my entire life than that week. We were so glad we didn't book a "dream vacation" that included a flight because I don't think we would have enjoyed it as much.
We agreed that because we took a cheap-ish honeymoon, we would take a more lavish winter vacation the following year, so we're jetting off to Mexico next winter.
Our Vermont vacation was about $1300 for the hotel) which included six nights, a gourmet dinner for two and an amazing breakfast every morning. Our rental car was about $120 for the week, and then, of course, we had some spending money (but when we got back, we had only spent about $400 total for all our meals and activities - including a couples massage). Our Mexico trip is looking like it will be $2600 with the flight, hotel for six nights, airfare and spending money for activities (it's an all-inclusive, and we plan to eat most meals at the hotel).
