Just curious to find out how much your bridesmaid's dresses were-
Also, did you pay for make-up/hair/nails?
i told my BMs to pick their favorite black dress they wanted from the jim hjelm line... theyre all wearing different styles in black chiffon... i think the price varies from $200-$300 depending on the simplicity of the gown...
they are paying for their own hair and makeup - i've offered a makeup artist if they want - it's all up to them and what theyre comfy with
shoes are also their own choice so long as they are silver strappy type
My bridesmaids got a great deal- we had already picked out Ann Taylor Celebrations dresses- and when we were ready to order, they went on sale to only $60 bucks!
I am paying for their makeup and hair, but it's up to them how they want to wear their hair. Shoes are their own choice- they all have lovely taste!
$130 with a $20 discount beccause I bought my dress at the same shop.
i did the same thing as anti-zilla -- jim hjelm dresses in mocha satin, they could pick the style (as long as it wasn't floor length). they ended up ranging from 154-182 at netbride.
they are paying for hair and makeup (only if they want it, i gave them the option). i'm paying for a manicure for everyone. they can wear any shoe they want as long as it's not fugly. =)
My girls dresses are about $220, vineyard by priscilla of boston. They are handling thier own hair and makeup- everyone is a little particular.
I will be paying for 3 bridesmaids:
Dress- $45/each (they were clearanced at Nordstrom) whoo hoo!
Sashes for the dress- $15/each
Brooch to pin on the sash- $15 TOTAL
Shoes- $25/each
Hair/Makeup- $150/each
Total spent for each bridesmaid- $240
$150 for the dress, $65 for the shoes, and the girls are paying. I am paying half for their hair and makeup, so they will owe $75 each for those.
My girls spent 170 total on a bill levkoff dress (that was after a 15% discount due to the number of bridesmaids I had and my bargaining with the owner!!). I'm not planning on paying for their hair or makeup - but I'm leaving the option of getting either done up to them. They can get it done or do it themselves - doesn't really matter to me!!!
They paid $200 for the dress after I research a discount code for JCrew that gave them $50 off and another code for free shipping! I told them they can pick the shoes as long as they are a light gold in color. Again its thier choice if they want to have their hair and makeup done. Each girl is different so I like to let them be in control of everything but the dress.
My bridesmaids are wearing cocktail length, black and wearable again dresses from Ann Taylor for around $70.
We are going to all do our hair/make-up/nails together so that will be free :)
Shoes will be black ones of their choice.
We're also very recent college grads with everyone having 5-9 years out of the workplace due to school so I'm trying to keep everything as cheap as I possible can!
$300 for dresses--bought them from Thread (www.threaddesign.com) /$50 for shoes. I paid for their accessories, hair, and makeup
There is a quantity discount of 4+ so it is $335 pre-tax. The girls will be paying for half of the dress and hair and makeup. They will cover shoes on their own (they get to choose their own gold shoes).
My bridesmaid dresses ran between $120 - $145 each -- I gave them 20 different dresses to choose from, all in the same color. They are purchasing a low-heeled silver shoe of thier choice.
My girls dresses were custom made from 1koo.com for about $100 each including shipping. They picked whatever chiffon dress they wanted from wherever they wanted, and I had them all made in aqua / tiffany blue chiffon.
I am paying for their hair, makeup, manicures and pedicures, shoes and jewelry, but I'm only paying for so much because it's a destination wedding and they are all paying their own way to the Bahamas.
jcrew juliet $180 + tax... free shipping when ordered from a store
My girls spent 160 for their Jasmine chiffon dresses and they are paying for their hair/makeup//nails... none of which I'm asking them to do (I'm pretty laid back about it) only if they would like to, like if one of them wanted to blow dry their own hair, do their own make up and only got their nails done or whatever they prefer!
I am in two weddings this year. Dress cost of the dresses were - $190 & $300. I have to pay for hair & nails for both.
My bridesmaids got their dresses on sale at David's Bridal for $50 (including shipping)! I really didn't want them to spend more than a hundred on their dress. :)
Hey! My bridesmaids dresses were normally 39.99 each from Target's online wedding collection- (if you want to look them up: http://www.target.com/Isaac-Mizrahi-Target-Embroidered-Dress/dp/B000U218SQ/ref=sc_ri_3/602-1933887-1347813)
They were actually on sale for 29.99 when I bought them-(which is why I ended up picking up the bill for the bridesmaid dresses... much easier that way!).
They're actually really great dresses and go with my "lace" them very well (I have a lace overlay dress as well).
They're definitely not silk dresses, but they're awesome for bridesmaid dresses and they can wear them again.
I have three bridesmaids, each of them purchased a Meadow Green dress from Ann Toaylor for $28! (two Audrey and one Averie) Can you believe it!?!? I am in desperate search for a Chocolate Brown Ann Taylor (for my 14 year old cousin that will have the lovely task of taking a poloroid camera to everyone for their guest book photo), and each of the bridesmaids may purchase the Chocolate brown shoes of their choice. My sister, who is also the maid of honor, will be doing my hair and make up. I feel better about a less made up look for everyone. I will be purchasing a mani and pedi for all three of them :0)
target dresses, also by isaac mizrahi like sltroester, but we missed the sale on ours... they were $30 but we paid $50, the regular price. (ours is the taffeta couture dress in chesterfield navy.)
as far as hair and makeup, one of my best friends is doing my hair, we're all doing our own makeup, and the BMs decided they wanted to pay to get theirs done.
I'm in a similar situation as varies from $200-$300 depending on the simplicity of the gown... <div class="eachcomment"><div id="post-40592"><span class="postby">The dresses are being cusom made and will cost me about $85 each when all is said and done, I am paying for the dresses. I let them choose their own shoes, but they want to match amonst themselves so they are still picking shoes to purchase themselves <div class="eachcomment"><div id="post-40594" class="alt">
I am also paying for their hair, makeup, (maybe just 1/2 b/c it's so much), and maybe jewelry or a shawl as a gift, but I'm only paying because it's a destination wedding and they are all paying their own way to Hawaii.
Hi, I let my girls pick any tea length, black jersey dress they wanted. Funny enough, they all ended up buying from Nordstrom.com and all the dresses were right around $100.
My BMs paid $200 each but the dresses were actually $270 so I supplemented the difference (they don't know this-shhh). I let them vote on dresses without seeing prices, but I just felt like $200 was more than enough. The dresses are long so they can wear any shoe they want. I am paying for hair and makeup (having someone come on site - not cheap!) and of course giving gifts. They are paying for their lodging. I honestly feel like I should pay for everything but I know I can't and its expected for them to incur some costs - but it still feels weird having them spend money on my wedding!
Janna19,
I feel the same way. I initially wanted to pay for the dresses but with 5 bridesmaids even if I kept it cheap it would be around $500 and then we would have to cover the tuxes as well bringing it over $1,000. This just wasn't in our budget. So instead I picked the cheapest (and still nicest) dresses I could find which were not "bridesmaidy" an wearable again, and then insisted that we do our hair/nails/makeup together instead of spending more money.
I bought them all nice (atleast I think they're nice) gifts, so I'm hoping this will make up for having to spend $70 on a dress.
Our bridesmaid dresses are $135/each.
I haven't yet decided if I should pay for hair/makeup (although I don't think we're having makeup, other than mine, professional done). I'm going to wait and see if my budget allows for it by the time the event rolls around, because I would love to pay for it if I can.
My girls dresses were $300.. they paid for them
They are also paying for their own hair/makeup but I am not requiring that they get it professionally done (they are all beautiful anyways!)
BUT
I am giving them each gifts worth $100-150 (I have 5 BM). I also paid for their shoes to be dyed (apparently this is a new trend, for brieds to pay for dye jobs)
I thought it would be nicer for them to have gifts instead of me just paying for their hair/makeup/shoes : )
I've been a bridesmaid three times: two dresses were $100 and the other was around $180.
My girls dresses are $120 which they paid for. I did pay for one of the girls dresses b/c she couldn't afford it. They can pick out their own shoes. They are also paying for their hair and makeup, if they chose to get it done. I am not forcing them, but I do have a salon booked. For a gift we are getting hotel rooms for the entire wedding party for the night of the wedding & have a driver for the night to get them to the hotel, as well as some jewerly for the girls.
$50 each and I'm picking up the tab. (One BM told me she didn't like the dress. Hey if they don't like them I don't want them paying for them.) Hair is provided by a friend, and we'll all do our own makeup.
$300 each and i'm picking up the tab. also paying for hair + makeup. the bridesmaids will bring their own shoes (new or existing, i didn't care) and pay for alterations ($75).
Ann Taylor celebrations in meadow green-their style choice-and several even got them off Ebay for super cheap. I hope they like them enough to wear them again but if not? I paid so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
Just ordered a bridesmaid dress for a friend's wedding in July-$165 from J Crew, two styles to choose from, Wild Peony.
A dress by Laundry was $200 for a wedding in November 2002.
i got my bridesmaids at a very reasonable price.
i went thru a small nyc boutique who carried the Mori Lee line. i got my 3 bridesmaids their dresses for 125 each!
if anyone wants the name and info of boutique, please email me at itsviolet@gmail.com
320 per, I have 8 bridesmaids. I'm buying the dresses. They're silk (actual silk not the God awful mass market ann taylor type of "silk") so they're pricey but worth it to me. i'm also paying for hair, makeup, jewelry and shoes, I think its tacky to ask a friend to pay-they're doing me a favor! :;
I have the "God awful mass market Ann Taylor type of silk" dresses mentioned above and I think they're lovely.
I think a lot of factors go into deciding who will pay for the dresses. I was initially going to pay for them until my MOH told me that she would not let me pay - and that I would have to pay for mine in her wedding! So I actually have the reverse problem - my BMs wanted to pay for their dresses!!
We're also not working with an unlimited budget because we think its more important to put money into the house that we own instead of throwing an over the top wedding. What matters to us is that we're getting married and our close friends and family will be there, not that we will have a parade of bridesmaids and a maxed out budget.
My bridesmaids bought their dresses at cocomyles.com. I designed the dress and picked the colors and sash type and it was delivered to them within 4 weeks or so. They only cost $138 and they look so good!
We got our at White House Black Market. They were originally around $150, but we were able to catch a sale and get them for around $70. I'm paying for the dresses and hair and providing jewelry. There's a chance I'll also be picking up the tab for their makeup and shoes (decision hasn't been made on the type- they may be able to wear some they already have). As someone else already said- they're doing me a favor so I'm happy to do it!
