I have had a lot of brides tell me that they had tons of cake left over after their wedding. All ordered accordingly…if they had 200 guests coming, then they paid for a cake that supposedly had 200 slices. A few of my recent bride friends have suggested that I order a cake for 20-30 people fewer that my guest list. Has anyone done this and been okay? I really have no desire to have a TON of cake left over after the wedding. Seems like such a waste.

- Wedding: November 2013 - St. Augustine Beach, FL
For my first wedding I ordered a cake for 50 people and even though my contract said to serve the top tier the waitress removed it and put it in a container to send home with me and the groom. We would have had plenty of cake for everyone except for that. It ended up that a few people didn’t get any cake but only one complained that they wanted it and didn’t get it.

We ordered a little extra, which was shared out at the end of the night to those who were still around (some cream cakes at 5am is just what you need after a night of drinking).

I think you should order fewer because just because you invite 200 people, dosen’t mean 200 people are going to eat cake. My sister-in-law had a lot of cake left over, everybody dosen’t eat cake.

@Ashley1281: You are right! Not everyone eats the cake. That is another reason why I was going to order less.

I would order the eact number. Some people might not eat cake, but I have never been to a family gathering where people didn’t mind taking left overs home, especially desserts 🙂 Also my FI just mentioned that some people may eat more than one piece.

Depends on the size of the pieces. Our chef ended up having fun making cake so she made some extra and everyone loved it. Keep in mind my uncle had 5 pieces of cake it he is the pickiest person ever so we had Chef come out to meet him he was so impressed.

Well, I ordered enough for 150 people (4 teirs). I figure I’ll have some cake leftover (especially since the caterer includes a dessert). I LOVE cake so I plan to share some with family and eat the rest LOL.
