How many cups of coffee do you drink, on average, per day?
(NOTE: I'm using 8oz as the size for one cup (in comparison, a Tall drip at Starbucks is 12 oz).
I drink 2 cups before noon on a daily basis. Usually much more (double or triple that amount) on the weekend). I don't really see a need to cut back, at this point.
I was talking to a friend who was horrified at her own 3-cup consumption and I was surprised she found that to be too much.
So, hive - what do you think? Are you drinking too much coffee and/or are you trying to cut back?
I drink 2 regular sized mugs of coffee in the morning and that's it. In college and right after, I drank a LOT more- a venti each morning and maybe another at night if I felt like it or was at the library studying. So at this point, 2 cups in the morning really seems like nothing!
I prob drink a full pot or a pot and a half per day, but I don't drink soda and very little juice. Actually, my dentist said it was sooo much better than soda and better for my teeth than juice (family history of thin/weak teeth), and my doctor said he would rather have me drink coffee then soda.
I used to drink usually only one cup per day but I have switched to tea. Something in coffee doesn't sit well with my stomach and body at all. :( I love the taste and smell of it though. I go a bit crazy when others are drinking coffee so I just get a tea to get my mind off not being able to have any.
I chose other...I stopped drinking coffee after college, because it makes my heart palpitate :(
I love black tea though! I have one cup in the morning, and I think it's just the right amount!
I dont ever drink coffee. I have a frappuccino or something like that like once or twice a year. Other than that I will drink tea.
I dont think you drink too much though! However, if you don't drink it - do you get a headache? If so, then you are technically "addicted"
I drink 12-16 oz per day, and I don't think that's too much; I sometimes drink more on the weekends.
I used to work at Starbucks (way back when) and I drank probably 40+ oz of staright black coffee a day; that was too much. My measley 2 cups isn't anything to be worried about, imo.
We're TTC, so I've cut down my coffee consumption a whole lot over the past few months. In the past, I easily downed 7 or 8 mugs during the day. Not that I necessarily *needed* that much caffeine, I just really enjoy the taste and ritual of coffee. I'm down to about one and a half mugs now. Happily, when I don't have any coffee, I no longer get withdrawal headaches like I used to, and I sleep better at night.
@PitBulLover: I do try to skip a day here or there - I don't (think I) consume it for the caffeine as much as the habit and routine. No headache, thankfully - but if that happens, then I'll quit for a week and then gradually add it back on.
Oh man I drink 2 cups some days and up to 8 other days... depends how tired or busy I am. I don't plan to cut any coffee out of my life though it keeps me motivated.
I voted other, because I definitely do drink too much coffee, but I am totally not going to cut back anytime soon. I drink probably a pot and a half to two pots a day, sometimes more, depending on the day and how tired I am. I can drink a venti black americano from starbucks and pass out two minutes later....caffeine has no effect on me.
I've never really been able to drink coffee, because it gives me a tummyache. But I am a bit judgy about the coffee dependence of a lot of other people. If they don't have it in the morning, it ruins their whole day. If they have it too late in the day, it ruins their night. Sometimes I'm sad I can't drink it, because I love the smell and taste, but yeah. That kind of addiction I can do without, thanksverymuch.
I drink 16 oz. first thing in the morning then another 16 oz. as soon as I get home from work. I haven't missed morning coffee since I started drinking coffee freshman year in college. If I don't get that afternoon/evening java I get a a caffeine headache. If I don't come straight home after work I stop and buy coffee. If I go to a happy hour after work, I order coffee first, then I get happy. : )
I drink a mug of coffee in the morning and occationally a bit more later in the day. I'd say I drink more in summer because I like iced more than hot, so i'm more likely to get a second cup in the afternoon. I used to work at a coffee shop and drank a ton then and I never even thought that was too much. The only time its too much is if I haven't eaten enough and I get a bit shaky, but that is rare.
I have about 8-10 oz of coffee per day. I think it's just right. That's all the caffeine I get during the day unless I have some chocolate or a soda.
I drank coffee until I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 20 - caffeine drives up blood sugar and insulin resistance - so although it speeds up metabolism, it can actually cause weight gain.
I probably drink about 16 oz normally, sometimes an extra cup. I don't think it's too bad.
This coffee talk has got me really craving coffee now - will have to go brew a cup!
I drink coffee probably 2-3 days/ week at most. Sometimes I will go for weeks without drinking coffee. DH on the other hand... I swear he can't function without 1 - 1 1/2 pots of coffee a day!
I don't drink coffee, but from what I've herd is coffee can be like a drug, you become immune to the amount you usually consume so you have to increase your intake to get the same effect. I don't know enough to say whether it's bad for you or not, but I herd it's not good to consume too much because it's a diuretic so you need to consume a glass of water for every cup you have just to keep moderately hydrated...and that can be a lot of bathroom breaks if you drink a lot of it lol
I have one mug of coffee a day. If we are traveling, I usually drink more though.
I just started drinking coffee again. I drink 8oz a day at work. On weekends I usually don't drink coffee, except once in a while I will have FI pick me up a small cafe mocha from starbucks if he is already going.
Mmm, I love coffee, but I really only have one per day - only because I tend to buy my coffee and refuse to spend money on it more than once per day.
I drink coffee a few times a week. Right now I'm on a diet, so I've cut back to once or twice a week, but I only drink one of those large coffee cups.
I drink around a pot a day, a 8-12 cup pot hehe and sometimes I'll cave to Starbucks and get a triple grande latte or some other treat. When I was little I would beg for milk with a bit of coffee, they eventually caved bc I wouldn't leave my grandma alone and would just find her coffee cup, as I got older I had less milk, more coffee. I love coffee!
I don't put sugar in my coffee, but I sometimes wonder if it's the sugar that gives more of a kick than the caffeine, for some people...
@Beluga: TOO FUNNY! Oh so true.
I can't stand when people talk about how they can't get to sleep at night or they toss and turn all the time. Well, it's 7 pm and they are having a thirstbuster full of Mountain Dew. I'm like, do you think the very large soda full of sugar and caffeine at 7pm as anything to do with it? Same response everytime - "Oh, caffeine doesn't affect me." Oh, ok. I wonder why you can't sleep then.
Coffee hurts my tummy too...and gives me other, unmentionable side effects. I love the smell, but I drink decaf green and peppermint tea. I used to drink earl grey, but too much caffeine and I wanted off of it.
I drink 1 mug (maybe 10-12 oz?) every morning. I drank a lot more in law school and would then get headaches when I didn't drink any. So then I stopped and didn't drink any for a few years. Now i'm back to 1. It gets me going and its a nice treat but I wouldn't want to go back to drinking more.
I drink about a cup every couple of days. It bothers my stomach if I drink it frequently, but not when I space it out.
2-5 cups a day. From what I read, that's not excessive, though I try not to do the 5 cups too often.
@kaylee26: Nope, not excessive! I just saw on the news yesterday that drinking 4 cups of coffee per day is very good for your health - it's full of antioxidants (as many as green tea!) and has been linked with lower rates of cancer and heart disease. I know for every study that says something is good for you, there is probably another that says it's bad, but I am an optimistic here!
5-6cups a day, plus numerous Diet Cokes and Diet Dr. Peppers. The amount of caffiene I take in daily would send most normal people in a frenzy. Perhaps I should consider cutting back, after all.
My blood type is caffeinated. I drink at least 1-2 in the morning and 1-2 in the afternoon depending on what's happening that day. I also drink a couple sodas. I could probably cut back but I don't want to. :)
i use to be way more addicted in college and completely cut it at one point (i was going abroad and didn't want to be dependent when i didn't know where i could get it!) now i drink a 10 oz mug in the morning, and then a mug of black tea most afternoons. i think it's a good balance, and i'm really wary of drinking more coffee than my morning cup in case i slip back into being super addicted again! also, i put sugar in my coffee but not in my tea, so switching to tea helps cut down my sugar intake. i can't drink any caffiene past like 3pm though anymore without having trouble sleeping at night
Right now we have a 6 cup coffee maker and I have a monkey mug that holds 1/2 of it. Generally we make a pot in the morning but sometimes we make 2, so 3 or 6 cups? and thats only a mug or 2. I'll still drink soda if we go out to eat but I used to live on it.
A few months ago I decided to break my caffeine addition, the initial withdrawal was awful, my head was pounding for days. I made it 2 weeks but than the aroma of foldgers french vanilla brought me right back. Delicious
I voted other because I dont drink coffee. My boyfriend does though and he basically has to have coffee in the morning or he gets a headache. (definitely addicted) When that happens it makes me glad I dont drink it. I'd rather not have a dependence on something like that--most days it's super easy to get coffee but I would hate to suffer just because I couldn't get any!
I only drink 1 cup in the mornings 2-3 days a week. I only drink it when I have to be up and go somewhere early in the morning. I'll stop and get a frappuccino at Starbucks maybe once a week (usually before/after the dog park on Saturdays), but I don't really count that because I'm not sure how much coffee is actually in my Peppermint Mocha. lol
