My FH and I are finally getting around to doing some wedding bad shopping, and we've been pretty surprised at how pricey the mens' rings are. I guess it's pretty cheap if you get titanium or some other metal that can't be resized, but he's worried that he may need to get it resized at some point later in life. So we're looking at white gold and platinum and the cheapest we've found is like $500? Any suggestions? we were looking to pay closer to $250-$300.
White Gold - $250. We got lucky though that we got it at the Michael C. Fina sample sale a few months ago in NYC. It was 40% off.
We haven't ordered our rings yet but my FH's is going to be about $350 for 14k white gold.
Try www.iweddingband.com and you should be able to find some plain metal ones for less (platinum and gold). But I should talk--we spent A LOT on FI's :(
We got his for $100.00 on sale from 200.00. Look around in the 'mall' jewelry stores, they sell a lot of men's rings that are not marketed as 'wedding bands' but look the same. And those places are always having great sales, some of them will even give you a deeper discount if they think they might lose the sale.
we're paying $250ish for a simple white gold band, and then they said it'll just be around $20 to get it engraved.
hubby ended up cost me almost $1000 - reason being he decided 20 seconds after i put the ring on his finger he didnt like rings, so we melted down the $300 ring and had our jeweller add more gold to it and a shark tooth he had from when he first started to dive and he wears it as a necklace (hes also a scuba instructor). the jeweller did an amazing job and he gets comments on it - not traditional but hes happy
LOL Eloping, you're so understanding. I would have told my hubbie 'too bad'!
@Noelle..... the minister was standing there and hes whispering to me "get it off"... afterwards he told me it hurt him, i said "what, physically or emotionally?" :)
he's such a big girl sometimes
$500. i bought it at a small local jeweler, which was nice. but afterwards i kind of wished i'd waited to get something vintage and cheaper (aka, lower-quality gold, since we don't care about that kind of thing ovah heah.)
His is going to be $2,800 because it from some minimalist jeweler that works with special metal or something. http://www.stuartmoore.com/
He's paying for the majority of it because I sure as hell don't have $2K lying around :)
We got matching rings. I chose these because they are close to my grandmother's weding ring. $350 apiece but I am so happy with them!
We are going the titanium band route because he really likes the wood that Zoe and Doyle use in their Etsy shop rings. They are about 200$
Well, we were quoted $299 for a 6mm yellow gold men's band at Kay's (locations all over the US!), BUT they are running a special fall promotion where if you spend $300+ you get a $100 off your purchase! Yay! So we bought both our rings together (my size 9 2mm comfortfit white gold ring came to about $60 and his 6mm yellow gold comfortfit ring sized 7.5(!) came to $250). Together, we got our rings (or will when they arrive in 1 week!) for $210! So exciting!
We got a great deal on a thin plain platinum band from BlueNile.com. Somewhere around $330, I recall.
We got his from Etsy seller Titanium Knights, for $66 including shipping. They were speedy and the ring looks terrific. We figured for that price if he needed a new size later on, ordering a new one was no big deal. Another thing we considered is in their 35 years, both sets of parents have gone through a few different gold bands due to them wearing out.
$1800 from Tiffany and Co. I'm sure we could have gotten a much more inexpensive ring that looks the same but it was convenient to get it at the same time we were getting mine.
$100, online from Titanium Kay. It's tungsten carbide and he seems to like how shiny it looks. He still doesn't want to wear a ring though so that's why we didn't spend a lot.
@ lemondrop- I plan on getting my mans ring from there too! They took the ring he liked most off the site though so I'm hoping they will do custom orders.
$400 from a Germany company TeNo. They have a store in Soho. It's surgical stainless steel inlaid with black ceramic. He wanted something different.
@Roxymarie- they were great to work with, hope they can make your ring, I'm sure it is possble!
We have not bought his ring yet.. but we are looking at some of the metals that can't be resized. We are buying through devon's and we were told that for a small fee, they will replace the ring in the future if he needs a different size, I think they said it would cost only like $50 or something.. so if he likes one that isn't resizeable, ask the jeweler about a replacement option in the future if his size changes.
We've narrowed it down to two and both are about $750/ea. After reading this thread, I'm thinking we should definitely be able to get a better deal elsewhere...we were going to use the same jeweler where he got my e-ring...but...
I wonder if the diamond wholesaler/jewelers mark up more for plain gold rings?...is this where they might make up the profit for diamonds?
The price of gold has gone sky high in the last few years with the economic downturn, so a lot of people are turing to the Tungsten, which is great because it holds its shine over time, but sucks because it can't be resized. My sister's husband had gone through surgery to have his gallbladder removed a few weeks before their wedding and was so stressed out over the deal he lost weight and the ring was too big! There's just something about the way gold (or white gold, which is what I'll buy my FH), fits that makes me think I'll go that route when it comes time to buy, even though it will cost more.
We went with tungsten. A lot of people brought up the sizing issue that schwickmar mentioned, but it only cost $40, so if it's an issue we'll get him a new one at that point! I know some people are very attached to their actual wedding rings, but my mom went through 3, my dad doesn't wear his, and they're super happy. :-)
If you're stuck on white gold and platinum, try finding a wholesale jeweller. My friends got their white gold rings at one in Toronto, and they were like $300 for both!
His was only $250, its a white gold very standard square style ring w/ a comfort fit. Mine on the other hand was $2000 eek!
We paid $75 for his titanium ring with a design. :)
Mr. Beagle's ring is titanium, it was $89. I would suggest looking online. We found his on Amazon.
His ended up being right at $350, including the protection plan and tax. WAAAY more than mine is going to end up costing HIM, but I figure since he bought me this nice engagement ring, we're pretty even.
We went cheap, though-- the simplest white-gold bands we could find. His is 4mm and mine is 3mm. It's extra to engrave, but only $15 each.
we got DH's band online. it's a tungsten band very plain...for $60! He was proud of picking something out that was so cheap :-)
I'm glad that there have been all these posts on this thread! I've been very curious about guy's bands and how much they should cost.
$450, but only b/c we knew the jeweler who made them. Really, the comprable one in the store is like $1000.
What about buying a used wedding band, then having it professionally polished (all the scuffs remvoed) and replated, which is only like $80? Maybe you don't want a "used" one, but it's a money-saving idea =]
I actually just picked up his ring today. We purchased his from Robbins Brothers and it cost $195. It's made of black ceramic carbide and comes with a policy to trade it in once should it need to be resized. Shortly after purchasing it the other day, though, I happened to be looking on Amazon and found his exact ring for $25. Yes, $25. But by then the papers had been signed and it was done. In case anyone is interested in it, here's the Amazon link. Don't make the mistake we did. http://www.amazon.com/Comfort-Black-Tungsten-Ceramic-Carbide/dp/B001RR9R22/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=jewelry&qid=1255036021&sr=8-1
White gold, 6mm, millgrain edging, size 11.25 - $430 from Mervis Diamond.
We got his ring @ Bailey Banks and it cost us 1300 but the original price was around 4000. Thank to their awesome discount!
His ring is costing us a little over $2000, which is more that both of my wedding bands, but not as much as my e-ring. It is 10K white gold, and has 10 princess cut diamonds in it as well. I didn't object because he bought me such a beautiful ring, he deserves a fabulous one as well! My best friends husband got his ring at Wal-Mart for about $50 and he really loves it.
