We received $12,500 in monetary gifts.

To give some more info… we had roughly 70 guests, most of which were part of a couple or family so we received around 35 cards. The average monetary gift was $100 p/couple with a few cards containing less and maybe 5-10 cards containing much more. We received 3 large gifts over $1k each and a few gifts around $300-$600. Our guest list consisted of only close family and friends with most guests falling in the 35+ category.

I think your answers are going to vary greatly, it depends a lot on your region and local customs!

@T-Rex:  And the size of your wedding, and what the guest list looks like due to age and composition (Is the couple in their twenties or thirties+? Is the guest list mostly family or have a lot of friends?)

@pharmy:  YES!  Someone with a formal 300 person wedding in New York with a lot of older family members is going to get a lot more than a rural 50 person backyard wedding.
