I have all these plans and ideas to pack all my decorations etc for the wedding because the resort charges so much for stuff i either don;t care about our just cannot spend that much money on!
so for example, i am thinking of packing the following (let me first say that i am aware i will be over limit at the airport but i am sure the fees i pay there will be WAY less than what everything would cost at the resort!)
60 chair covers
4 candle centerpieces
4 tiki torch centerpieces to display along the bar at the beach party
welcome bags + contents
24 water bottles (i got them personalized)
bubbles (small, not a big deal)
about 10 – 15 boxes of fake flower petals
about 30 votive candles
hmmm, i can’t think of anything else. but am i being unreasonable? anyone have experience with this?

We drove our minivan to our DW, and it was packed full! We had two wedding dresses and accessories, our chuppah (wedding canopy), programs, kippot (skullcaps), and spotlights.
However, if you are going by air, you may want to consider having some items sent directly there, rather than carrying them with you. For example, 60 chair covers will likely be both heavy and awkward to carry. If you are ordering them online, you might see whether you could just have them shipped directly to the resort. For other items, you might want to think about shipping them there, rather than trying to carry them.
And don’t forget that in addition to your normal luggage, you’ll likely be carrying your dress with you. Adding a bunch of decorations to that could be very awkward to carry into and out of airports.

@2dBride: i should look into shipping stuff. i am particularly torn about the chair covers. the resort will place covers over the chair (ugly plastic chairs) at $6 a chair. and i was estimating 60 based on 30 people – they charge to do it for the ceremony and again for the reception (i guess because both are set up in advance). so that is like $360 total! i found a place to rent chair covers for $1.75 each! but have to return right after the wedding. so i have to call them to see if i can even keep them for 10 days.
but i hadn’t thought about shipping them directly to Jamaica. might be more in shipping fees, but still ALOT less overall, so thanks!
the water will be eliminated if i can’t fit. they will be heavy and i COULD buy some there (just won’t be personalized.

@dynamic_duo: Can’t you buy personalized labels for the water and just buy the bottled water once you get to Jamaica?

@MsFoxxy: hmm, i think it might look cheap if i had to stick them on myself. plus its too late, i already got the bottles. they honestly weren’t even that spectacular. so they will be the first to stay behind if i have too much stuff

@dynamic_duo: Good point. I haven’t seen any of those labels in person before, so I’m not sure what the quality is like or what it looks like when you put it on the bottles yourself.

I don’t think you are going overboard, I wanted a few extras for the big day also. If you are flying, I would just be mindful of the weight of the bags and fees. The resort we’re getting married at does not accept any shipments, so we have to bring anything else we want for the wedding. I’m not too thrilled with how much we have to spend in baggage fees, but I’ll get over it 🙂 . Good luck!

@keturahrussell: that’s what people keep telling me, and my response is that i am actually saving a TON of money by paying baggage fees when compared to the fees the resort is charging for some things! their centerpieces are $80 each, mine are $15 each + candles. their flower aisle is $100, mine will be max half of that, their chair covers are $6 each, mine would be about $1.75 each. etc etc
