Wow. I think 1200 NZD is a little high... that is about 1000 USD. I was quoted $685 for custom made 14k white gold with .33 diamonds (13 stones). I know yours was for 18k and that gold is a all time high, but that should not be over 300 more.
Mine is a matte finished 14k rose gold with right around fourteen tiny little brown diamonds. We paid $350 for it. It was originally over $700, but I used ScoutMob to get 50% off.
I went with a 2 carat eternity band and it was about 4300 with VVS/D stones.
It sounds okay, but you could possibly do better, unless ebay is your only option. I got an eternity band with 2.18 tcw (not sure how many stones), SI1/F diamonds and paid $2k for that and my FH's band, both 18k gold. Just my ring appraised for almost double what we paid. I do think we got a ridiculous deal that might be otherwise difficult to come across. Went to one of those mass jewelery centers about 45 minutes before closing at the end of their work week just to browse and the guys kept coming down, down, down--we would have been crazy to walk away! I can't wait to wear the ring when I'm finally married!!
We got a .25 tcw wedding band for $130 USD. It has five stones, and fits my engagement ring perfectly! We got it REALLY on sale though. They were originally charging almost $500. Shows how much they mark up diamonds!
1200 NZD sounds pretty high...but if you love it and can afford it, go for it!
Mine will be a half eternity band in 18 carat white gold, not sure of the size of the diamonds, but it will be $1850 AUD.
Things in Australia/NZ are just more expensive than the US! It seriously sucks.
Don't forget if you pay to have it insured on shipping, you will have to pay the full duty (GST) on all shipments.

@viv81: We bought my ring on sale for $188. Original price was $500 at Kohl's. It's just white gold and the diamonds are tiny, but it matches the style of my e-ring.
Mine was $780 for a .50 carat eternity band
My band is 1/2 ctw and cost us $1000 with a lifetime protect plan
You should go to shopdi.com, I bought mine in 18 k white gold and 0.5 ct in $670! I was kind of scare, but when it arrived it was great , It is very thin I don´t know if you like them like this

The one I'm planning on is about $5000. It's 4mm wide, .65ctw and set in platinum. I'm probably overpaying, but it looks fabulous with my e-ring (the diamonds in the band are also Lucidas like my e-ring) and my FI and I decided it's worth it to get what I want. ;)
Mine is half-circle shared seting with round diamonds in platnium for $3400. But it's also from Tiffany, so of course there's a markup. But I loveeee it :)
My wife and I decided on tungsten rings because I'm in the service and a lot of the guys already have them. She really wanted us to match but I wasn't too sure about a diamond in mine because the cost is high and anything can happen out there. But we found very good prices for a matching set at www.tungstenworld.com. It was cheap enough that I was able to get a ring that looked exactly the same just without the diamond so i don't have to worry about it so much when I get deployed.
My diamond wedding band is a half eternity bead set with 1/4th CTW & 10k white gold. $203 after tax & shipping. :-) Its my dream wedding band & just so happenly I found it for a great price!
Mine was a matching set with my engagement ring, AND on sale! I only paid $400 for mine, and I love it. No idea how many carats though.
We bought my diamonds from a friend of ours who is a jeweler, so our prices are definitely skewed.
my band is a .33 carat half eternity with a milgrain edge--we paid 500 and saw it for around 1000-1200 in local stores. It's 14k white gold...and actually in the time between ordering it and receving it, the price of gold went up 10%.

I want to know how much do you guys paid for wedding bands? Im just wondering if the prices for diamond rings in USA is cheaper than NZ! For example, for a 18k white gold ring 0.3carat worth of diamond will be around NZD1200...
I saw some on ebay that im interested in and they are sooooo cheappppp
