i am debating on waiting to order my gown in december where i will recieve a discount at a trunk show, or to order at my locally owned bridal salon that i LOVE at their full price. the bridal salon that i love's regular price on the gown is cheaper than the price at the other place before the discount.

if i wait and order it at the trunk show, i will save $175 dollars on the dress itself. however they will also charge $25 for shipping, it's a 50 mile round trip from my house, and i will have to pay extra for my bustle.

if i order it from the local shop here that i love, they do not charge shipping, it's only a ten minute drive from my house, and the shop owner does the bustle free of charge. she said she started doing the bustles herself because she's super picky and hates to see a great gown ruined by a horrible bustle.

so, how much did you bees pay for your bustle?

Ok I need to ask.  What the heck is a bustle?  I hear all about it and I have no true idea of what it is.

@sskati-It's basically when you put the train of your dress up after the ceremony so you don't trip over it. The seamstress makes it so you tie it up to look like part of the dress. = )

My dress doesn't have a train, but I just wanted to say I'd just go to the local place you love! It sounds like a MUCH better deal, and you save on gas as well!

We  paid just $35. from a private seamstress. The bridal salon wanted $150. to attach 3 hook & eyes for the bustle!

My bridal salon charges $12 a button for the bustle. My dress will only need about 3 buttons so not much at all. I would go with the salon but thats because I love mine too and I love the customer service and how excited they get for you.

I think my bustle was $60, although I will say that it was terrible.  It lasted about 30 seconds, I sat down to sign the marriage license and it snapped right off.

You may save a little money if you go the trunk show route, and while I'm always a huge fan of saving money, I actually think the local shop sounds like a better situation in this case, bellamargot. Sounds like your shop owner is a rare gem in the bridal industry, who actually wants to help your day be great -- if you should run into ANY snags with the dress (last minute alterations, last minute steaming, whatever), it would be good to have her on your side. Like an insurance policy. :)

My entire alterations were $65 for a french bustle and two princess seam alterations and hemming. Go to a private seamstress or tailor; the bridal salons will rip you off.

could you buy the dress from the trunk show and get the alterations (including bustle) locally? i assume the $25 is for them to ship it to you.

I'm so glad you asked this question! David's had quoted me about 200 (!!!!) for the bustle for my dress! I already knew that I wasn't going to get alterations done there because I've heard horror stories, but it's so good to know that it's actually a lot cheaper than I thought!

I would go to the local store too.  You probably will need alterations as well and it sounds like the other place would probably charge you for them or you will have to find another place to go for your dress.  You probably wouldn't end up saving much at the trunk show.  I'm not sure what the situation is there but I would be worried that they would run out of your dress there too.
