Dumb question about going to the dentist

How much did you pay for your wedding flowers?

I'm starting to get some pricing for flowers for the wedding party and I had no idea they would be so expensive!

Two of the four places that I priced out came back with:

    $175 - $200 for the bridal bouques

    $95 - $110 for bridesmaids

    $20 - $25 for boutonnieres

    $20 - $25 for corsages (mom/FMIL/Gma/FIGma's)

Does that sound right? Outside of a few bouquets here and there I have zero flower buying experience so I'm not quite sure where the prices should be. So, I thought I would turn to the experts in the beehive :) Ladies? What's your flower pricing like?

I'm doing all of the flowers myself and all together, spent probably around $300- that includes my bridal bouquet, 6 bridesmaides bouquets, corsages, and boutiniers. Now all of these are silk flowers so that definitely helped lower the cost. And if I would have used flowers in my centerpieces, it would have been much higher.

    I went with safeway

    my bouquet 105

    BM bouquet $75 each

    coursages $13 each

    bout $9

With flowers for 4BMs&4GMs&flowers for parents and living gparents ended up being $528 before tax

That's at the higher end of normal, I'd say, but not outrageous. That's only a little higher than I was quoted for flowers and we live in very different areas, so this is probably pretty average.

It depends on the flowers you use, too. My florist that I booked with quoted me $655 and that was for 1 bridal bouquet, 1 toss bouquet, 5 bridesmaids bouquets, 1 junior bridesmaid bouquet, 1 groom bout, 12 other bouts total (I think), 2 corsages and tax. Some of the flowers used are orchids, garden roses, amaryllis, etc.. (orchids and garden roses are more expensive than normal flowers).

I went to the Amish across the street from me and got a REALLY good deal. She gave me ALL of the tulips for my wedding for $150- my Mom is putting the arrangements together!

I agree with ohheavenlyday.  I spent about $600 for my bouquet, two bridesmaids, two mother's coursages, two readers coursages, and six bouts (including tax and delivery).

that is pretty normal... here is what I was quoted, granted i live on the other side of the country and i'm not having and bridesmaids but it's pretty close to what you were quoted:

my bouquet $145 (succulents, garden roses, mums, sweet pea)

    cours 12.50

    bouts 12.50

centerpieces are $75 a piece. they have manzanita, same flowers as bouquet with some filler flowers)

and she's doing a swag for $75 that will go over the fireplace that we are getting married in front of.

also doing some curly willow to cover a wall partition for like $40.

I spent just over $1,000 for my bouquet, 6 bridesmaid bouquets, 2 corsages, 13 boutinnieres, 13 centerpieces (including vase rental), a flower for the top of the cake, and aisle petals. Basically all flowers are black magic roses or ivory vendala roses.

I was quoted 600 which includes my bouquet and 6 bridesmaids bouquets, 4 bouts, 3 corsages, and 13 centerpieces.

I think this is a great price...even though my flowers are mostly inexpensive daisys and wildflowers with the exception of my bouquet.

    What do you guys think?

@PinkPandaBear:  At my venue, it was $3-400 for bride, $100ish for BM, $50ish for corsages, and $40ish for bouts.  It was cheaper for me to get wholesale flowers, do my own, and pay the $200 outside vendor fee for not using their florist.

I was quoted $1500.00 for my bouquet, 4 maid bouquets and 8 dozen bulk roses for my centerpieces. I thought this was crazy, so I did a trial run and made them myself. It cost my $23.00 for mine, $15.00 for my maids and $125.00 for 8 dozen roses. In total spending $208.00. My mother in law is going to make the bouquets the day before so I dont have to worry about it. Since the flowers are just roses it kept the cost down. Now we can spend that money on something else:D

    Bridesmaids Bouquets (5)

Bouts (1 for groom, 5 groomsmen, 2 fathers)

Centerpieces for cafe tables and dining tables

    Arrangement for guest book table

Hanging chair arrangements (doubling as bathroom decor)

    Mantle arrangement

We are using mostly dahlias with some hydrangeas, lillys and freisas.

Oh my goodness!! Thank you everyone for sharing! It was really helpful to hear/see other price quotes. It defintely helped with perspective. Thank you!!!

@daniellerenee85: Now that I think about it I guess I might have requested expensive flowers. (Orchids, plumeria & roses - tropical flowers for our beach wedding). That's a very good point.

@totheislnds;futuremrsmclean;ossmith;twfcah2009   DIY ladies after hearing your input I think I might be leaning towards the DIY route. I'm not terribly handy, but my mom can pull off a mean bouquet and my FMIL is a crafting goddess. Though, I'm not totally sure how we're going to pull this off since its going to be a destination wedding.

@PinkPandaBear: That sounds about right to me, we're paying a bit more than that so I'd be happy with that price :) There are definitely different options though... there are even some websites that will send you a whole box of matching bouquets, corsages, bout's, etc. right to your doorstep! Pretty cool. Definitely keep looking around if you're not comfortable with that pricing.

I think your quote sounds about right .. I think a lot of it depends on where you're getting married too.  Our flowers will probably be a mix of roses, callas, dahlias, hydrangeas, orchids, maybe some stephanotis in my bouquet, then other seasonal flowers in the whites/creams/ivories color scheme.

    Bridal Bouquet - $300

MOH and BMs Bouquets (5 total) - $125/each

Boutonnieres for Groom, his men, dads - $17/each

    Mom wirst corsages (2 total) - $35/each

We also have the same florist doing the ceremony decor, cocktail hour decor and reception decor.

@Prewitt:Ooh, I love the way that sounds. So incredibly romantic! Gerberas are up there on my list of favorite flowers, they have a way of being elegant yet sweet and funky at the same time.

@PinkPandaBear: We are using them for bouts. I wanted to do button dahlia bouts but the florist said it is hard to do those as they are often way too big (and look like clown bouts that spray water at you!).

So we are doing freesia bouts for groomsmen and fathers and the groom will have a lilly in similar colors.

I'm sure the types of flowers I'm using are adding to the cost of flowers, but they will all be locally grown and I'm sure they will look stunning.

The prices you got are very normal for the area in which you live. If you look at these boards you can't really compare your prices with others because where you live/weddi ng is determines prices in southern states things are cheaper than New Jersey. You can't compare Northeast to other places in the USA. In that case mine is in NY and have about the same prices mine is $200, bridesmaids are $80 each corsages are $25 each boutonnieres he is throwing in free, centerpieces are $80 a piece. It ends up to be over 2,000 dollars.

20-25 for mom and grandma corsages

20 for groom, GM, and ushers bout.

    200 for alter arangements

985 total before tax and labor.

I said F it and I am doing all the flowers myself.

I got all the flowers and supplies I needed to make everything. including centerpieces which are not included in this price (bc we planned on doing them ourselves anyways) and vases etc for a total of $497.37 :)

@Apple Cake: That sounds like such a pretty combination! I Googled the stephanotis and I'm glad I did. They're such beautiful flowers. We're getting married in Hawaii (I guess it's a semi-destination because my family lives there but his is coming from NJ & CA) and for some reason I was thinking that tropical flowers - orchids, plumeria & mini roses would be cheaper since they were local. But I guess I was totally wrong about that!

@Lisamr: That's a good point about regional prices. After looking around the board I am seeing a steady variation in prices for venues/catering etc...Just my luck that my families are living in expensive wedding states. Boo!
