Hi There!!
We have narrowed it down to 2 wedding planners. One is charging us $550 & the other $650. Both are considered "full planning & day-of coordination".
Oooh & if you're on a budget, consider looking for free-lance planners or those that are just coming into the wedding planning market- they are usually less expensive & really personable!
@Claireleann: so if you dont mind me asking for that price are you getting just DOC or are you getting full planning where they set up & attend all vendor meetings on top of DOC services?
The big name in town, whose weddings are always featured in magazines and blogs, has a few diferent packages, from a $15,000 packages to a $1,000 "design only" package for a DIYer.
For the most part, it seems as though $3,000-$5,500 is "normal" for FULL planning by other names (who also get their weddings in magazines and in blogs.
The not-as-well-known planners are about $1,700-$3,000 for partial planning.
DOC services seem to be $750-1,000.
I'm in Charlottesville, VA (central Virginia, 2 hours south of Washington, DC).
Where I'm from I'm looking at about $350-$500 for a DOC and $1500+ for a full coordinator.
We are only having a DOC, but I did research planners and where I live planning packages range from $1,000 to $10,000 depending on how in-depth you want them to go. DOC services range from about $500 to $1,500 but we are getting a helluva deal and will be paying about $200 for 8 hours. :)
@College: Sorry it took me a while to respond! But yes, that is full coordination services & Day-of as well- really good deal compared to a few others we interviewed (anywhere from $800 - $1300)!!
We brought a planner on for the whole process, from when we got engaged all the way through the wedding day. But it's not her "full" wedding planning package, i.e., I am still doing some stuff (only the stuff I actually want to do!) on my own. I think it was $3500.
i did not have a wedding planner OR a DOC coordinator, but i know that at a couple of the places i looked at, they were charging about 5k for concept, design, execution, setting up, tearing down, etc.
it seemed crazy expensive to me! i DIYed it, and am so happy i did.
We are paying ours $40 an hour. This means for the day of it will cost about $600. We are also using her for our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner and some pre-planning. The best thing about her is that she bills us AFTER the wedding and we have six months to pay. Love that!
there is a coordinator that is on site that is included in the price of renting out the ballroom where I am getting married!!
We have a partial planner + DOC for $1,200. FI and I get stressed very easily, so we don't want to have anything worry about on our wedding day. In the meantime, she is helping us find the best vendors for the lowest prices, and keeps revealing skills that will help us save more money/stress (such as making all the bouquets!) Also very good at helping with the creative side of things. Worth every penny.
FULL Coordinator for $700. She is also putting together my centerpieces, and overseeing setup. She is also hand making my bouts and BM bouquets.
I paid about $2600 for a full coordination wedding coordinator in Dallas/Ft. Worth. From the research I did in my area, I think this was a very competitive price b/c I know of people spending well over 5k. I thought her pricing was a little low and I dind't know if that was a red flag, but she came as a referral from a friend...so, I thought it was safe.
However, I'm so into the details that I played the lead role with all my planning. So, if you aren't into the details or just don't have the time, then hiring a Wedding Coordinator for full coordination might work out well. But, knowing what I now know (my wedding was last summer), I would have been much better with a Month of Wedding Coordinator.
I'd be happy to answer anyone's ?s since I already went through the lovely planning process :-)
I just need someone to basically set up and break down so do I need a DOC or a planner?
$850 for DOC- to me, money well spent to not have to be setting up, handling vendors, or cleaning on my wedding day!

I live in Washington state, and am newly engaged! Im new to this, just surveying, how much did everyone pay for their wedding planner?
