Guess it depends on what your budget is but I can break down ours roughly for you.

Venue $3500

Food $10k

Alcohol $5k

Dress $2500

Hair $1000 (me and bridal party)

Make up $1000 (as above)

Flowers $3k

Decor $4k

Bridesmaid dresses (we paid for bridal party) $1200

Groomsmen $1000

Shoes (just mine) $350

Hair trials $180

Photo booth $700

Band $2300

Accom $1000

Photography $1,500 (went with someone newish I liked)

All up we spent around $35-40. I haven’t added the above but those were our rough costs. Things that popped up were like having a make up trial, buying a shawl when I realized it would be cold, shape underwear when I realized I had put on weight lol, decor I bought and never used, table runner issues that cost me another $80.

Which country are you in? We were forced to use our venues wine as it was a winery and we paid extra for spirits. Our wedding was 90 people. Ahh on top of that were staff meals but they were $40 a head

Bugger I left out

Favours $350

Limo $350

Cake $650

But really it depends on what you want, what’s important to you. We could have easily sacrificed stuff but had money to do so. If we had been going to cut things, I would’ve gone for cheaper shoes, cake, no limo, I would’ve just said no to parents requests for things they liked, less flowers lol!

It really depends on your budget. I am halfway through planning, and have just paid for most deposits. So far, an estmated break down is as follows:

  • Reception venue/food: $5K+
  • Ceremony venue: $150
  • Officiant: $175
  • Photo: $1300
  • Band: $2500
  • Dress (with alterations and vail): $1200
  • Hair (including trials): $100+
  • Cake: Still deciding
  • Floral: Still deciding
  • DIT projects: $100-150

I’m sure I’m leaving stuff out, but that is what I can remember at the top of my head right now.

About half of our overall budget went to the venue which included full set-up and take down of the ceremony and reception, food, drinks, and decor.  It was just under $5000.

emi11:  Hi there! Congratulations on your wedding planning! It can seem very daunting when you’re not familiar with weddings or costs of weddings (probably the majority of people — myself included).

When I began planning, I had NO idea how much weddings cost. What really helped me was http://www.costofwedding.com/. You input your zip code and it gives you the average price and breakdown of money spent on a typical wedding in that area. After a two year engagement and a wedding in one month, I ultimately found the numbers to be very much on point.

Cheers and hope that helps!
