So we’re a pretty frugal couple, and the fact that we’re having such an elaborate wedding gets me a little worried sometimes. I look at our budget and just keep thinking of all the things we COULD be buying instead of this expensive wedding….like putting the money towards a down payment on a house! We both really want this to be fancy and special. We are debt free, and both have good paying careers…but today I’m finalizing the ordering of our invites and I have MAJOR sticker shock!!
Now don’t get me wrong, the invites and STD’s are amazing!! They are EXACTLY what we want. I’ve been scowering magazine and websites for months trying to find something that inspires me and then these came along. we looked at our budget and decided to make it work….but all together we’re spending $1040.00!!
Based on the magazines and how much they say we “should” be spending our budget was supposed to be $400.00.
How much did you spend on invtes and STD’s? Anyone else out there wonder if it was worthit? This is a once in a lifetime thing I guess…and the invites and STD’s set the tone for our formal affair…but all that money! Jeesh!!

I want to say that our STD’s were less than $50 and invites were $120?
I know that is very inexpensive, but we really “hunted” for a good deal. Oue Save the Dates were postcards we created that had our photo on the front with the wedding date and location.
The invites were so wonderful and nothing that I had ever seen before.
If you look around-there are plenty of good deals out there(you just have to be patient and search around!)

Is there any way you can DIY the STDs and/or the invites?? I about passed out on the carpet when I found out how much those things cost and decided to make my own!
We made boarding pass STD’s with a little folder for 110 ppl under $50 bucks and they turned out awesome (if I do say so myself!)
We are creating pocketfold invites with a small booklet (ala Miss. Snapdragon!) and are going to be paying a little under $200 for those.
Its a little time consuming, but you would be able to save a lot of money! Just a thought. 🙂

I agree with Heather—Also, in case you wanted to look at the websites where I found mine, for the STD’s: http://www.vistaprint.com and then for the invites: (I think is is called http://www.123print.com

Sigh…I had similar sticker shock. I fell in love with letterpress and we ended up spending around $2000 for STDs (not letterpress) and invitations (custom made letterpress). If I was at all talented or crafty, I would have done them myself, but alas!

for my STD’s we did magnets and they were about $30 for 100 for our invites they were around around $150 for 100

Our STDs set us back about $50 without postage (which was ~$33)- I DIYed the image/info and had magnets printed at VistaPrint.com then my FI and I attached them to Chirstmas cards (and double deal! STDs AND Christmas Cards!) using photo corners.
Our Invites were about $150 without postage (which was around $90 for the invites and the RSVPs). I DIYed them 100%.
So….you can get your invites “cheap” but it means DIY, generaly.
P.S. I fell in love with an invite suit last summer which was about $1000 for 100 invites and 100 RSVP cards- nothing else! I had a heart attack!

@JennyChicago: did you get these from http://www.123print.com ? I cant exactly find a style that i want on there and its driving me crazy! cause they inexpensive!
=( i havent found ANYTHING to inspire me. But i definately am not going to spend $1,000. i cannot afford that!

I DIY’d. I designed my own STD postcard and got it printed through vistaprint (during a free postcard deal so i only paid for shipping)– $11 for 100. My invites I am diy’ing totally… printing at home and the whole deal. The materials will cost me $100 + ink for 70.
Keep in mind though, we’re doing a somewhat more casual event invites are just not something I value all that much in comparison to other things.

My magnet STDs were about $75 for 85 through 123print. My invites were about $300 for 100 square cards, lined envelopes, RSVP. Postage is going to set me back about $120 or so. I got 20% off my invites (Embossed Graphics) through a friend. I think Party City has 30% off all the time. There were lots of things I liked better, but they are going in the trash the day after the wedding. I just couldn’t justify a big spend and I don’t have the patience for DIY.

In total, STD’s, invites and postage was near $1000. I was pretty surprised myself.

We DIY’d our invites and didn’t do STDs. At the end of the day I think if the invites and STDs are important enough for you and your FH to want to spend that much on them then go ahead! I don’t think it’s a crazy amount. I’ve definitely heard of people spending much more than that. But likewise I’ve also heard of people spending next to nothing on them. It’s totally up to you on how important they are to you.

We spent about $1200. There was no way I was going the DIY route. They would have looked awful so to me it was worth it-I loved my invitations.

littlemissmoo, thank you. I think I just needed to hear someone say it’s ok to splurge a little on something if it’s that important to you. Originally I didn’t think it was that important but once I saw these invites and STD’s I just fell in love.
I got the final order price and it’s $826.00, not over a thousand like I orriginally thought. But still, it’s expensive. I’m just going to keep telling myself that it’s a once in a lifetime experience and I derserve to have real invitations this time versus homemade one’s like I’ve had for EVERYTHING else. I’m a good scrapbooker, but I never would have been able to make something that looks like these.
(You know what’s funny about all of this??? These still aren’t as expensive as my wedding shoes! Hahahahaha! And those I didn’t bat an eyelash purchasing!! what can I say, paper versus shoes…shoes win every time. )
