@As_You_Wish:  If you are worried about it costing too much- but you know what you want, I would just have a friendly conversation with them.  Let them know that you appreciate them offering to purchase your nursery furniture, and after doing research, you’ve found what you want at the most reasonable price.  Let them know if it’s out of reach for them, or if it’s more than they intended on spending, you’re grateful for what they contribute and you’ll cover the difference.

I know it’s always hard when someone else is paying- you want what you want, but don’t want to push.  One thing I will say- I think it’s smart you want a solid crib to last for years to come, but remember- they generally speaking get beat up a bit- unless you never let your child have a toy in there  My son basically tried to eat his crib (and we got a “guard” that was supposed to prevent that but he saliva-ed the crib up well enough to make the adhesive come off)-

Your pricing doesn’t sound too high- in general (although obviously I have no idea what crib it is)-  I think my son’s crib was $299 or $399 and his changing table was $200.

The only new thing I got was the crib mattress. Everything else came from yard sales.

@As_You_Wish:  Great choice on the changing table- drawers are awesome and will help store stuff/keep the room looking need.  Our was shelves- which I thought I would like- and had cute bins to put stuff in, but drawers would have lasted longer.

    Both look nice.

Don’t get upset if the crib gets chewed- it sounds horrible before you’re a parent.  But then you realize it happens LOL- and it’s not the end of the world.  It’s not like it looks like a dino went to town- just some teeth marks.

I say go for it- as long as there are no recalls on either one- and you might want to get drawer safeties for when baby started crawling/moving/walking- or you might have a tipped changing table!

what we got is similar to the photos above but we paid regular price. The crib converts to a toddler bed or day bed and then a full sized bed. We also got the changing table, dresser, and a glider with ottoman.

We spent in the 500-700 range before and decorations, sheets, toys. Also, the furniture all looks amazing still. Our DD is 4 and everything has held up to her abuse very well.

I was given a glider and a changing table, used a dresser I already had and bought a brand new crib and mattress. I bought the crib from wal-mart, it is solid wood and nice looking, I think for the crib and mattress I paid $200? I liked a lot of the more expensive cribs at first but couldn’t bring myself to pay that kind of money. I did go all out and buy a $500+ stroller, so I think it’s just figuring out how important it is to you. the prices you’ve found seem pretty mid range to me, you could probably find something just as nice for cheaper but they aren’t crazy expensive or anything.

I was given second hand — the dresser, the changing table and the crib so I haven’t spent anything on nursery furniture (yet) but was prepping myself to pay in the range you’re talking about.

I just bought a crib, matress, dresser, bookcase, and glider for a total of about $1300.  I thought I was being frugal and looking for the best deals, but maybe not!  I ordered everything but the glider off of Amazon (with a discount code for a total of $100 off) and the glider from Costco.

We got all of our baby stuff off of kijiji. I’m 34 weeks along now, our nursery is complete (crib, dresser, change table, glider) and we have EVERYTHING (30 cloth diapers a reasonable stock of baby clothes and blankets, carseat, swing, high chair, stroller, etc) and we’ve spent about $1200 total. I can’t really imagine spending over $1000 on just the furniture!

I voted “over $900” but that’s including the conversion rails and the toddler rail, which was an additional $300 total.  We wanted to purchase these now when they were still available in case they get discontinued before we need them.  We got the rest of the furniture on sale, the crib was $255 and the dresser was $510.  We got our furniture from BRU and they offered a 3yr service plan on the crib for $25 which we also bought in case of teeth marks.  We figured by the time she’s 3, if she’s going to chew on the rails, she’ll have done it already and we can get a replacement if needed.

We know we spent a lot on the furniture, but we did it with the intentions of never having to buy this baby new furniture.  It’s good quality, real wood, so it SHOULD last her until she moves out.

@As_You_Wish:  …I think we might have the same crib/changing table combo!

Is it Sorelle? Ours was $400 (but we’ve seen it as high as $650), and we had a coupon for 20% off, so it was only $320!

I got our Dutalier glider off Craigslist (she ended up having twins, and NEVER used it! Sold it 4 months after the birth of her kids). That was $850 new, and I paid $130.

And the dresser/armoire combo is $200 from Ikea! It’s SUPER cute, and it’s PINK! So she can use it until she’s 7 or 8 and ready for a real dresser!
