Unfortunatley, I am the first out of all of my friends to get married and have never been in a wedding before, so I am wondering what is considered appropriate? Background- I am studying for the bar and not working for almost 6 months before our wedding and both my FI and I have massive debt from law school. Our parents generously supplied us with 2/3 the wedding cost as getting married in Philly is not cheap and the bulk of our budget went to an AMAZING food spread (custom menu of many appetizers and 5 stations with 3-4 dishes each and a craft beer paired to each station to sample with it).
My bridesmaids paid for their dresses ($240) and they can pick whatever shoes/jewelry they want. I gave them the option of hair and makeup ($175) and 5 of my 6 bridesmaids chose to do it. For their gifts, I got them all custom made silk floral robes from Etsy. Is this enough? What else should I do on a budget? I don’t want to be the awful selfish bride but don’t have much money either 🙁

I spent about $40 on stuff that is worth over $100. I got my girls each a bracelet, earrings, shoes (for the day of, but my girls will wear them again-one actually did already), and a personalized lunch tote. I may get them something else too.
Get what you can afford. Your bridesmaids aren’t in your wedding for the gifts they are there to help you celebrate and support you.

I know your pain, I spent forever trying to find the right balance. Here is what I did:
Bought each of the girls robes off Etsy ($27 each)
Bought a really cute bag canvas for each off Etsy ($1.99 each)
Found an awesome sale at Nordstroms (and Nordstrom Rack!) and got them all Marc Jacobs wallets (75$ each)
Offered to pay for half of their hair or makeup (30$ each)
Went to Old Navy and bought each flip flops to put in the bag, in addition to other drug store goodies that they may need (10$ each girl)
I probably over did it a bit over my budget, but I couldn’t help myself. Check out Nordstrom Rack to see any discounted “luxury” items. That 50% off sale on Norstrom.com saved me!!
