I am feeling guilty for spending on my dress, I've never really spent alot on myself in any way. I'm curious to know how much you all spent/going to spend on your dress/es.
Pictures would be nice if possible. :)
Mine was $1258 which included getting it three inches shorter. Here's a picture without the strap and flowers attached to mine. I think all I'll need in alterations too is to get it bustled.
My dress was from Joli Bridal and cost about $600, plus $225 more for alterations.
I'm getting mine designed and made by a good friend for $1000, including all materials and alterations. Unfortunately, though, that means no pics to share until the dress is read!
I paid $700 + $100 for alterations. It's Casablanca 1881.

You all look so gorgeous in your dresses! I believe my aunt is doing my alterations so I'm not too worried about those. My father mentioned something to her about us paying her, and she declined payment. I'll still try to slip it in somewhere
My first dress is 500 and I think the second one will run me round 400. The second dress will be champagne colored instead of black. :)
Is that too much to spend? Like I said, I'm not good at spending money on myself.
Mine was $150. I'm so excited about the deal I got I just have to share. :)
I paid about $900 for mine...well my mom was generous and bought it for me. Normally this dress goes for $1200 but I found it at a sample sale for $900+tax.
@SweetRose2011: Kudos on the deal, and it's gorgeous! :)
I'm such a worry wort, but we've cut every other corner in this wedding - even the cake. I feel like I'm being a bit selfish.
Here is my awesome find... $250 on sale (originally $850)
@wgowood:Thank you so so much! And if you got a dress for $800 I think that is a steal!
@wgowood: $4-500 is a pretty good deal on dresses, I don't think that's too much unless you're on a very, very tight budget.
BTW, your first dress looks a lot like one I tried on in that price range:

The skirt proportion was just too much for me (I'm only 5'0).
My dress was $100, though it was originally $200. With alterations it was less than $200. The only issue was that it was too long. Also, keep in mind that I went to a department store, not a wedding shop.

I spent $230 on mine, including a separate slip to go under it. The dress itself was $170 for a Davids online only style that I bought just to try and LOVED.
Don't feel guilty for spending money on your dress, though! Everyone's budgets, priorities, and expectations are all different, so don't feel bad about whatever you spent. :)
My original dress was as Amsale dress that I bought off oncewed.com from a lady that was a 2 dress bride and I paid 850 for it (which is the first dress pictured. Then we decided to elope and I was able to buy a short dress off the rack for $250 and while I at the salon buying my dress I got a hair piece that was $89 so I factored that in with the cost so I just say 350.

@shannon1126: I love both your dresses!
I, first, bought an Amsale online for $499+ shipping and then had a dress custom made for $310. Then the lady showed me a copy she made of a Watters dress and now I want it :(
Edit: the Amsale is the bottom and custom is the top and current dress
Well, it looks like I'm the priciest person here so far. :> I spent $1500 on mine, which was more than I budgeted and had been trying on (I'd otherwise capped at $1200) but in the end I decided I really did want THAT one and it wasn't insanely more than where I'd already been looking and I'd tried on enough dresses by that time that I had a good idea of what was out there and what worked for me. The reason it cost more is because it's a limited edition dress. I didn't (and don't) care about it being a limited edition, it was just what I liked best.
@soonerpysch - I think that is the same dress as wgowood. it's the Mori Lee 4524! I also tried that on one. It's very popular!
Mine was about 650 thats with alterations. I will have pro pics soon! It is a Venus dress.

Yeah, I'm still on the hunt for my reception dress. Any ideas???
My FI said I should get whatever I wanted, but I'm still super hesitant! I'm terrible at spending money on myself.
On a completely unrelated note, we may have found our videographer for less than I thought, and an officiant that suits us. Fingers crossed for those meetings guys!
@ejs1228: Oh my gosh, your dress is gorgeous!
Mine is Vienna from Maggie Sottero. I spent $1360.
$799! A great deal, I thought. But now I'll have to pay about $200 for alterations. I never thought I'd spend as much on a "wedding dress" (gulp), but Watters Hope looks too awesome on me (if I do say so myself). Sorry I don't have pics in me in it, but it is a great, great dress.
I spent w/ taxes $540 on my dress!!! It's a discontinued style and I'm not sure what alterations will run. Hopefully no more than $200.
I spent $900 with tax, but I don't know what alterations will run yet!
Mine was $1080, plus $350 in alternations. My mom paid $500, I paid the rest. Its a Pronovias.
me and my "little" brother:
One of my favorite parts of it was the removable train:

My mom paid $922 (sample dress) for my dress and I paid the $259 for alterations.
$2000 for mine, and I'm not sure what alterations will cost. Way over what I thought I'd ever spend!

I think I paid $1500 (I think???) plus whatever alterations will be. I plan on selling it to recoup a good part of the cost. My shoes and veil wont be more than $200 total so I will fall within the budget I gave myself for dress and "all others". I will ear the strap for the ceremony, but will remove it and add a necklace for the reception.
It is Sottero & Midgley Gracie.

My Mikaella is $1600 + $220 alterations + tax so around $2000 for my gown when it's all said and done. I also have a reception dress for $200 in addition to my ceremony gown. (This is all in Canadian dollars) My mother paid for the gown and I will be paying for my reception dress.
$1600 including a hem to hollow but not including other alterations (bustling for sure, and the bust may need to come in a bit...we'll find out next year when the date is approaching!), but worth every penny; I LOVE it!

Mine was 840, marked down to 375 because I got the floor sample. I'll probably pay about 200 for alterations. I'm impressed by all the frugal brides here! After so many episodes of Say Yes To the Dress, I was expecting to see a bunch of 5 to 10,000 dresses!
@lezlers: I absolutely agree with you there. I was freaking out about not being able to find exactly what I wanted for a fair price. PHEW! Nice to know we can find beautiful things for beautiful prices.
What do you all think about this one for the reception?
Mine was $1,258 but included $300 in free accessories, so I really consider the cost of the dress at $958 ;-]

Mine was a little less than 1500 with tax. Maggie Sottero Ella Marie... Still on the hunt for accessories... the shop I got my dress at does free alterations woohoo!

@gabrielleelise1981: you are seriously so gorgeous! You look like you just stepped out of a beautiful 19th century portrait. You have such a lovely, sophisticated face, and I am so envious of redheads right now so your hair color is making me swoon too!
As for my own dress...this thread makes me feel guilty about my dress budget. It's one third of our total budget. That's all I'm saying.
